Simple Interior Design - Rachel Bush
INTRODUCTION
Walking into a home that is fresh with life and inspiration can add value to your life in so many ways. After all, that is what we all want—to have a private space to reflect on our lives safely and comfortably, surrounded by the things we love most. There should be no exceptions when it comes to the interior of your home.
Boho decor is an excellent way for women to engage in their inner free spirit and create spaces to mix the things they love without rules.
There are many ways to embrace what you need to reflect your style. From a colorful bedroom to a cozy reading room, boho decor allows you to remember your true self through the design of your home. The best part about embracing bohemian decor is the various textures you can mix and match. Nothing has to be symmetrical or perfect. You can add whatever makes your home relaxing, warm, and cozy. From hanging rugs on the wall to using fabric art pieces on the floor, every element counts as a part of your unique design.
Think of mixing paisley with floral or adding wood and metal together in the same corner. You could even be outdoors in your home with plants, flowers, and pottery that reflect whatever you love about your life. This book is all about bringing the beauty of boho decor to life in a cost-effective manner.
From earthly tones to beautiful scatter cushions and soft rugs, Boho's interior design has taken on a new life. Intricate shapes and colors bring out the fun in every home with bohemian decor and designs. The idea of tranquil spaces in one's house has become the new way to turn your surroundings into a masterpiece of artwork and natural splendor. Boho comes from the word bohemian,
which means to live unconventionally and artistically. It describes one's desire to live informally in the presence of rich natural textures, artworks, and lifestyles that challenge the conventional norms of society. Boho decor represents free-spirited people who want their homes full of color and culture. Artifacts, sculptures, and decorative pieces represent the desire to be creative and free. A sense of rebellion rules the aesthetics and embraces all things filled with unconventional sensibilities. Eclectic similarities are found in each room without them being completely the same. The flow of color will always remain complementary to each other, as if to tell a story of the people who live in that home. Nothing is as beautiful as embracing your inner free spirit; I am here to help you achieve that.
Over the years, I have spent much of my time embracing arts and culture, finding solace in the beauty of nature. There was much to enjoy, and the need to embrace the world of arts and culture outside my daily duties as a psychologist was growing. Spending time outdoors and taking in the beauty of nature sparked my interest in turning my home into a space where I felt as free indoors as I did outdoors. That's when I decided to invest in boho interior designs that would give me the freedom to live and the luxury to dream. I suddenly had the creative freedom to turn my home into something of my own by combining objects, patterns, and colors worldwide. Every aspect of my home would be as I chose, and it would be a direct representation of who I am. Mixing saturated materials and colors all over my house is the complete opposite of the sleek modern designs sold in most furniture stores today. I didn't have to be minimalist, and I certainly didn't have to be plain. I could add whichever textures, colors, and objects I wanted to make my home unique. It was as if I had added a signature to my house that no one could mimic, and it brought me both peace and tranquility once I began to enjoy it.
My love for the arts has led me to this book, where I will show you how you can achieve the same decor in affordable ways. With many designs and many ways to express yourself and your idea of bohemian designs, my comprehensive guide will help you find the perfect look for your home. When starting with Boho designs, you might feel overwhelmed with the choices. The best part is that you can set the tone and work according to what you feel comfortable with.
Jewel tones, earthly textures, and metallics are part of creating boho-style decor. The best colors to combine are earthly greens, browns, and grays with fiery reds, burnt oranges, jades, and electric blue shades. Different purple shades can lift the mood of each room, creating three-dimensional textures alongside gold and silver finishes. The idea behind using all these colors is to make your design signature unique. To bring life into each room, you could add natural artworks from various cultures, like statues and sculptures in wood, bronze, or other metals. Mixing cultural pieces is another way to reach into your inner free spirit, as there is no wrong way to display what you may find interesting.
Each chapter will teach you to understand and embrace the freedom to let go of the standard way of decorating your home. Many of the pieces you need are already right there!
I have included all the elements in this guide, so there will be something for everyone at any age. It's important to remember that you can start your decor journey at any point, and you can adjust it as you go along. Again, there are no rules, and you can set the tone and level of creativity. Each step-by-step guide will teach you how to bring tranquility to your home with any budget. Bring calmness and nature into your living space with functional ideas and a harmonious flair. This book is for everyone, from the artsy to the corporate ladder climber looking for a change in their scenery. Let's explore how to use practical techniques to create a welcoming and soothing environment through boho decor and design art.
CHAPTER ONE
UNVEILING THE BOHEMIAN SPIRIT
Embracing your bohemian spirit and the creativity inside you can be beautiful and empowering. Over the years, bohemian styles that many have come to know and love have evolved into something that's both liberating and rebellious. It's the unspoken rule that is broken enough to show change but still accepted enough to show class. By mixing cultures, features, and textures, women have become less afraid to explore these broken decor rules, so the revolution of boho deco began. The essence of allowing women to have a part of themselves set free by redirecting misplaced energy is the equivalent of a vacation. Being creative is all about expressing yourself and making your own rules. There would be no point in our freedoms if we, as women, couldn't explore what is inside ourselves and use it to make our spaces more beautiful. The best part about unveiling your bohemian spirit is that there are no rules. You can do as you please with designs, patterns, and shapes.
The decision to embrace boho decor doesn't have to end with just your home. Once you find yourself in a comfort zone, you can begin to explore with food and even your clothes. Think of it as the beginning of a lifestyle change that can only be for the best. There are also many benefits to being creative and allowing yourself the freedom to create. Look at this style choice as a rebirth of your home space and the things you genuinely love. Think of it as your change and an invitation to tranquility in your home and life. Your home is where you will spend most of your time, and you want to ensure that you like it as much as you love it. Boho-style decor is fun and easy to embrace when you truly discover how much fun you can have when you have no rules to follow. Basic decor design tells you how to place everything you purchase, but boho decor says, Go crazy!
With numerous benefits allowing you to break free from tradition, the design platform is yours to be free in. Beauty will be in the eye of the beholder, and because it is your home, you need only be concerned about your opinion. The more creative risks you are willing to take, the more peace and calm you can bring into your life. If you have previously lived a stressful lifestyle, then you can relax and enjoy the art of interior design while doing it in a way that complements the life you want.
One of the main benefits is the confidence boost women get from putting something into the world they can be proud of. There is a significant drop in anxiety and stress, and the promotion of self-discovery increases. Boho decor eliminates the fear of judgment because nothing has to make sense. With more people opting to spend time in their homes for work, this is the ideal way to turn any at-home office into the perfect oasis. You will bring coziness into each room and still get on with your day in a space you can be proud of. The feeling of self-awareness can be a confidence booster, leading to more creative risks. Those risks are what boho decor is all about. Let's take a look at how you can unveil your boho spirit.
The Roots of the Bohemian Style
Rejecting social norms and traditions started the bohemian movement in France in the 19th century. Free-spirited lifestyles continued to become popular with the release of unconventional art forms, music, poems, and fashion. Mainstream culture tried to contain a formality that the lower-class French tried to fight against, and with that came the revolution of bohemian lifestyles. These individuals believed that their music and art forms required no direction and that they could make it up as they went along. Living in the moment rather than planning was far more acceptable at the risk of rejection from the upper class. A mix of eclectic colors, patterns, and textures is used as a form of self-expression for anyone who wants to carve their way and call it sensible. There was very little about it that made sense, but over time, the rebellion became accepted, and today it’s celebrated as a necessity rather than a nuisance to society.
America drew its adaptation of boho styling around the 1960s and 1970s. During this time, there was no longer a need for conformity, and the counterculture movement encouraged individuality as a way to reject the system and its accords. It became known as the hippie movement, where flower power represented a peace movement
