A Spoonful of Happiness
––––––––
Old cowboy Janek had few needs – a horse, a bottle of good whiskey, and the view of the vast prairie. He didn't need much to feel happy. He had worked on the ranch for years, as long as he could remember, and every day spent in the lap of nature was like a spoonful of sweet honey to him.
One day, as the sun slowly set in the west, Janek noticed something unusual on his way home. In the field stood a young girl, holding a piece of an old, rusty spoon in her hands. Her face expressed sadness and worry.
Janek stopped his horse and dismounted, approaching the girl. Hi, what brings you here?
The girl looked at him with pleading eyes. I lost my last spoon,
she confessed. It was the last keepsake from my grandmother. I can't believe I lost it.
Janek examined the spoon, which looked old and worn. He knew it must have had immense sentimental value to the girl. Finally, he shook his head and took out a silver spoon from his bag, which he always carried just in case. Take this,
he said, handing her the spoon. I hope it helps you find a bit of happiness.
The girl looked at him with gratitude in her eyes and smiled. Thank you, but what about you? Won't you need this spoon?
Janek smiled and patted his saddle. I have enough happiness for today. The sight of this wonderful prairie and a bottle of whiskey waiting for me at home is all I need.
The girl smiled even wider and bid farewell to Janek, holding her new spoon with special care.
Janek returned to his cabin, and as the sun set behind the horizon, he poured himself a glass of whiskey and sat on the porch, gazing at the vast prairie.
And as he took the last sip of whiskey, he felt his heart full, because thanks to a small spoon, he could make someone else's life a little better.
Because sometimes in life, all it takes is a bit of kindness to brighten someone's day and make the world a slightly more beautiful place.
Najszczęśliwszy pianista w Warszawie
––––––––
