Preface
On my seventy-fifth birthday, I asked God what He wanted me to do with the rest of my life. Almost audibly I heard, I have given you a great passion and understanding for color. Teach that to the next generation.
In my decades of research, I discovered the science behind color opened the door for explaining a myriad of everyday phenomena, including validating the invisible. Understanding the science gives insight into some wonderful and exciting technological breakthroughs that involve light, color, and nanophysics.
These writings expand the definitions of light and glory, which give new insight into the Holy Scriptures. This book shows how color can be used to bring beauty and meaning to life. It teaches you how to be aware of the communicating colors around you and to enjoy the sense of well-being as God’s nature enhances your life. This is a very personal story shared to help build appreciation for God as Creator and give new anticipation for the beauty and color awaiting in heaven.
Many years ago, I developed a life motto: Encourage with Wisdom.
Whenever I need to decide whether or not to proceed with a project, I use this statement to test the worthiness of the effort. This book has been more than worth the effort. Please understand that I am just an ordinary person trying to respond to what I sense God has revealed to me. My prayer is that the reader will take to heart the encouraging messages I share and give grace with the parts that are less than perfect.
Color in Your World—Revealing the Invisible is like no other book you have read. With the story of color as its focus, you will find it to be profound yet practical and straightforward. This project is also the first element in a series of educational endeavors under the banner of Color in Your World. Experience for yourself the colors in the photos, in the QR code videos and in the stories of this unique book.

Why a Color Story?
The soft white leather recliner waited for me in front of the east-facing living room windows. This chair was my special prayer chair, which swiveled so I could get a full view out the windows.
Early mornings were my favorite time of the day. I’d anticipate the unique and awesome colors of the dawn. I’d fill a porcelain mug with hot green tea, swaddle myself in a cozy blanket, and nestle into my prayer chair with my face just inches from the glass. The 175-year-old pecan tree stood proudly in the center of the yard. The leafy arms of my tree stretched until the tips dangled lazily over the fences of both my next-door neighbors, the tree’s canopy creating an embracing silhouette.
Even when the sky was cloudy, the scene offered by the rising sun was mind expanding. Inspired by my calming surroundings, I surprised myself by asking out loud, Okay, I’m seventy-five years old. Now what do I do, God? Is there anything I have learned over all these years that should be left for the younger generations?
God’s reply resonated so clearly to me that it seemed audible: I have given you a great passion and understanding for color. Teach that to the next generation.
My eyes widened. My heart rate quickened. The tea in my mug sloshed because my hand trembled. Did I hear that right? I thought. I will have to mull on that for a while.
Well, I mulled for three years. Like a child wandering aimlessly in a forest, I struggled to determine how and where I should leave my passion and understanding of color to future generations. My bachelor’s degree is in chemistry and mathematics and I have a teaching certification, so I considered teaching at the local college. With my daughter’s urging, I registered for a course called Color in Interior Design. The class gave me joy because I’d always had a desire to be in the design industry, but I must admit that I was a little frustrated because the curriculum wasn’t very in-depth about color.
This instilled in me the confidence to create my own course on color. After I earned a certificate of completion in the Interior Design Concepts Division, the college agreed to hire me as an instructor to teach a class in the Continuing Education Department titled Color in Your World.
Since I was teaching in a secular institution, I was instructed to avoid talking about anything religious. Disheartening? Yes, mainly because I couldn’t go into detail about how everything I was teaching really came from God. However, what initially appeared to be a hindrance was really a blessing in disguise. I realized that I needed a way to tell the whole story about color. That revelation is what spurred me on to write this book.
My writing journey started with a thought-provoking question: Was my love for color and beauty created because my childhood environment shaped my thoughts, or was I born with the desire for seeking beauty and trying to understand how to create it?
Memories rushed back from when I was a child in Montana. The windy prairies provided plenty of dust that coated everything outside, and to a lesser degree, inside. One of my chores was to dust our intricately carved old English-style dining room furniture. I was just the right size to crawl around the legs and push the dirt out of the crevices with a soft old gauze diaper that had been repurposed as a rag.
When outside, I played with an old, empty paint can that had a wire handle. The paintbrush I used was well-worn to quite an angle. The magic paint was water from the cow’s watering tank. My efforts with that crude equipment transformed the farmstead. The fading red barn siding became rich apple red with one or two swipes of my magic paint. The metal clothesline poles were restored to shiny silver right in front of my eyes. The wooden clothes pins turned a rich brown with each swish. I even tried to paint a cat or two, but they weren’t too happy about being soaked with my magic elixir.
As I thought more about my childhood, I could see my natural bent for science and making things beautiful. Another clue came to me as I remembered my trips to the dump.
Our farm was thirty-six miles from the nearest town of any noteworthy size, so we didn’t have access to a trash disposal service. All food scraps were placed in the slop bucket and fed to the pigs daily. Everything else that needed throwing away went into a fifty-five-gallon empty oil drum that Daddy cut off with his welding torch. Anytime he worked in the shop with the acetylene torch, I was kicked out. I would watch from the yard through the big open garage door, fascinated by the bright golden flame and the sparks
