On Point - Sabong Culture and Art

    Introduction

Cockers will do everything they can to ensure that their fighting cocks win during battle time in the cockpit. They invest a large sum of money, time, and effort in the preparation of game birds from shell to pit. And at some point, they feel like it's an endless learning process that's so hard for them to perfect as competition has become more and more difficult.

Each cocker can vary in approach and style in terms of conditioning their gamefowls for competitions, but the goal is the same: to win. A good breeder or cocker knows what is best for his feathered warriors and can acquire that learning through combined experience and science. When asked if all fighting cocks, regardless of their ancestry, must go through the same formula for success, he simply smiles and says, Each line has its own conditioning requirements, and each bird has its own unique formula for success.

Therefore, you can always take this valuable advice from experts seriously: Fight your chickens when they are ready, and not when you are ready.

The purpose of this book is to give you a complete understanding of how to recognize the signs reflected in your roosters indicating that they are in their peak fighting form and to give you a brief overview of the lineages of game birds with their corresponding fighting styles, conditioning, and pointing requirements.

Breeding, to some extent and regardless of how it is defined, is about duplicating, or cloning a prototype that we think is ideal or worthy. Different bloodlines of gamefowls have different body characteristics, conformations, fighting styles, and more, although all gamefowls have the same need for proper care that we can introduce to them so that they can stand out or emerge victorious in any competition. The type of competitions you want your fighting rooster to
