The Need for Disease - Atul K. Mehra

    "Solutions were created before problems,

and problems are bridges to solutions."

    Atul Mehra

    Preface

When I was four years old, my father taught me how to meditate and during that time, I had loads of questions that had disturbed the tranquillity of my life for so many years.

    Who am I?

What is the purpose of my life?

    What am I doing here?

Why do I take birth and have to die one day, although I do not want to?

What is happiness, and what is sadness? Why does everybody want to be happy and not sad? What will happen if I try to be sad when I am happy and vice-versa?

Can you imagine I had all these questions even before I turned ten years old? All those questions about my existence, relationships, health, and whatever else entered my mind. I remember waking up and wondering, why it is, what is?

I could not sleep for hours, and it began creating health problems as well as trouble for me in school.

I questioned everything: God, soul, body, mind and whatever else related. I remember those thought processes became so dominant that I lost my mental peace and began behaving in some bizarre way. I remember staring off into the emptiness but deeply absorbed into my thinking world. It created great mental exhaustion and wasted energy because I started losing interest in life and everything surrounding me.

Fortunately, my father was not only my first Guru but also a great friend and someone straightforward to talk to. I remember explaining my frustration and desperation to get answers that night. He listened to me patiently, and his face grew serious while listening. It made me nervous because I had always witnessed him laughing and loving during these conversations. When I finished, he said, it is alright that you are going through this, and it can be very natural to feel frustration and disappointment when you do not get answers to your questions.

You are on the right track, he continued. Still, there is no need to chase the answers now but wait for them to come to you and soon, life will take you through those pathways and to people where you will find your answers. It will happen in an extraordinary way when life's secrets start opening to you. Still, everything will fit together in your life, and you will be surprised that it was so simple, and you took so much time to understand it, but there is no need to feel bad about it because it was not your time, and you were not ready for
