Salvation is NOT something you earn.
Last week we took a peek at some of the benefits of salvation. This week we will take a look at what salvation is not. This might surprise you, but there are a lot of misconceptions of what salvation is. Many people add to the simplicity of the gospel. In our humanity, we feel like salvation is something that we must earn. In fact, every other religion puts some of the work on the believer.
Our memory verse of the week is where we will start. The Word of God makes it very clear that salvation is all about faith in the grace of God. It is a gift. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" (Ephesians 2:8)
Remember that saved means delivered from the penalty of sin. What is the penalty of sin? Death. Jesus paid that death penalty that would take eternity for any of us to pay. "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" (1 Peter 3:18)
Salvation is not about anything that we have done besides have faith in what Jesus has done. "Not
