Cbt for Kids - YVETTE STEVENS

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION TO CBT FOR KIDS

Cognitive and behavioral disorders affect people of all ages; in fact, most adults who have one or more cognitive or behavioral challenges have had the condition since childhood and have paid little attention to it. For persons who suffer from social anxiety, the problem most often began as a child as a result of a negative event, such as bullying at school or at home. When a youngster is subjected to continual bullying in the environment and receives little care to address it, the child may develop an excessive amount of anxiety, dread, and concern. Such a youngster may have difficulties connecting to others, even peers, and may develop other communication disorders.

For many of the mental and behavioral issues that children, teens, and adults face, regardless of age, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a capable and useful tool for resetting and decluttering the mind of unhealthy thought patterns and beliefs, as well as developing healthy habits that can foster good behavioral and social interactions on a daily basis.

This handbook and workbook for recovery from maladaptive cognitive and behavioral disorders in children are intended only as a supplement to the body of excellent information already available, and it is based on extensive and meticulous study and experience. It is non-clinical in nature and is not meant to replace any clinical approach or professional diagnosis or treatment. This book will help you understand how children acquire cognitive problems, what you can do as a parent or caregiver to tackle the issue, and, most importantly, actions and things you can do to prevent it from occurring. If you have a child who is struggling with mental or behavioral issues, this book may help you know where to go for assistance and how to get it. If there is anything in the book that you do not understand, please seek the assistance and advice of a specialist.

This workbook provides ideas, tactics, exercises, and processes to help you deal

with any problematic behavior your child exhibits.

Reading this book will teach you what to look for (without making assumptions) if there is an issue with your child’s behavior and cognitive development. Many problems in children have become severe as a result of parents’ ignorance about their child’s mental and behavioral well-being. Most parents do not consider this while caring for their kids, and some even feel it is inappropriate for a youngster to face such issues that they would expect to see in adults or teenagers. Kids have issues and challenges, most of which are not openly expressed as they would be in adults and teenagers, and this is because, at that age, their will is subjective. Regardless of how a child is attempting to act in an unhealthy manner, parents can still be very thorough with them to make them behave in their own expected way, though this will not remove the unhealthy behavior unless it is properly addressed.

As a parent, you must be aware of the various concerns that may jeopardize your child’s natural growth and development, even in adolescence. It would be beneficial to view the statistics concerning cognitive and behavioral issues that are available and understand that they are genuine and do not just impact one class or race of individuals; they may affect anybody in any fashion.

You must avoid it by taking the appropriate precautions to ensure your child’s optimal development. A well-behaved, clever, bold, and vocal youngster will grow correctly and provide you with fewer problems to worry about; why not take the effort to put things in the right perspective early on in order to avoid the terrible consequences? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics statistics from 2015, there were over 6.5 million persons with intellectual or developmental impairments, with 545,000 of these people aged 6 to 21. Let us look at some statistics
