The happiest girl in the world
Princess Isabella was the happiest little girl in the world. She lived in the royal palace of Landovia with her parents, King Edward, and Queen Anastasia. Isabella loved her parents more than anything in the world. She thought they were the best parents a girl could ask for!
Her mother would visit the princess in her nursery every day and read to her from her favorite picture books. Even though she was a queen, Isabella’s mother would even sit down on the floor and play dolls with her. The princess loved taking long walks around the garden with her mother and finding the prettiest flowers to pick for her. No matter how busy her parents were, they always ate dinner with her in the great hall and asked her about her day.
King Edward was very busy working, but he still found time to play with Isabella each day. He would pick her up and toss her, laughing, high up in the air. He gave the best bear hugs and knew just how to tickle the princess to make her giggle. The king would even let her stay with him sometimes when he sat on his throne and met with important people from other countries.
One day when Isabella was about three years old, King Edward let her sit in the throne room with him while he talked to someone from France. She sat at the back of the room and listened quietly while the grown-ups spoke. Isabella loved to see her father at work! She always learned something from him.
Rockland has broken the peace treaty that we made with them, your Highness,
the man cried. Their army has invaded France, and they’re coming towards Landovia!
Then we will work together to stop them,
the king replied. Landovia will send troops to back up the French army right away. Both our countries must be kept safe from attacks like this!
The man bowed and said Yes, your Highness. Thank you, your Highness.
He bowed again and left the room.
Isabella came up to her father and tapped his shoulder.
Papa, what was that man talking about?
she whispered. He scooped her up and put her on his lap.
"Do you remember visiting France last year, my princess?
