Author

June A. Ramsay

Writing is June's passion. He love to write! He has been writing for many years, but never published any of his work until 2010 when he published my first novel, I Said, "I Am A Nun". It is his optimum expectation that his work brings joy to 'the reader' as much as it brings joy to him.Born in British Guiana (now Guyana), South America, June migrated to the USA where he has lived most of his adult life; between New York, Dallas, and now the Baltimore/Towson area in Maryland. While working full-time in corporate America supporting high-level executives in the 'big five' accounting firms (PwC, Deloitte, EY), June returned to college and obtained an interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in communication and human development from the Empire State College, New York.

    Author’s Note

In the early 1950s, a very ‘sad’ event occurred in a small country village in British Guiana, South America.

This is a faith-based love story of life, death, love, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

The dynamics of this narrative caused me discomfort to pen – based on the sadness of the event. However, since I influenced the pen, I felt I would decide on the outcome of my characters. But penning this story took on a life of its own as I embellished the truth in fiction.

Though painful at times, I found encouragement through the pain to complete the story because of its message of hope, faith, love, and forgiveness.

I was reminded that love exists amid pain, disappointment, and suffering. This story is about unimaginable pain and loss. Followed by adequate time for healing, infiltrated with love and forgiveness, and finally, amendments which were only possible by turning everything over to our Heavenly Father, Almighty God. Knowing that all things are possible with Him, for He gives us the desires of our heart when we seek Him first, and seek Him diligently...

    Introduction

My incredibly special aunt, Winifred Maynard, told me there is a myth that when a child is born, a cup of joy and a cup of sorrow are poured into the child’s soul. Some of us experience all our sorrows early in life and the joys later. For others, the dynamics are reversed. Then, many get theirs in bits and pieces - in a balanced way - throughout life. It matters not how the joys and sorrows are dispersed, we all get our cup of joy and our cup of sorrow - regardless of who we are, where we were born, and to whom.

This story, ‘Her Father’s Sin,’ is about a woman who got her cup of sorrow in her early childhood years, and as a young adult. Her cup of sorrow was so gruesome, she needed distance from the scene of her crime, and from everything she knew to heal from her reality.

A decade later, still in the healing process, she decides to revisit the scene of the crime and to spend a brief period in the area with her best friend who still lives there. Part of the decision to visit was an attempt to evaluate her progress. Not knowing that she was about to embark on the ‘real’ test of her strength and healing when she found herself in the presence of one of the participants of her gruesome misfortune.

She never felt she could heal from the devastation she endured but was trying to adjust her existence to incorporate the hand of life she was dealt.

During the decade of her healing, when the crying ceased, she was able to focus on rebuilding her life, one thought at a time. She expanded on that and was able to do trivial things ‘out of the box’ in which she was placed by her life’s misfortune.

Feeling her heart and soul disconnected by the tragedy, she turned to her Bible and found comfort by the ‘living word’ of God. Then day-by-day, through the grieving process, she felt her heart and soul slowly reconnecting.

After a decade of healing, she was able to accept her hard reality, which included the diluted remnants of her life.

    Oh Man of Sin

We come into this world not self-determined.

I did not choose my mother,

Neither did I choose my father.

My sisters were not chosen by me, neither were my brothers.

I did not choose the country in which I was born.

The first language I learned was not chosen by me.

My birth date was not my choice.

My parents told me clearly it was not their choice either…

    ‘Oh Man of Sin’

There was so much stacked up against me that I had no control over.

The baggage of my parents, I inherited.

The good things about them, I also inherited.

And, since these things were not decided by them.

Obviously, they were decided by someone else…

In my inner search, I found out that they were determined by

the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

To whom I directed my queries, and He gave me this answer:

Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and its righteousness.

And I promise you that all other things shall be added on to you...

I have done this so far, and I am the recipient of all the other things.

May the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob bless the reader.

    Ten Years After the Disaster

Loud explosions woke Ginger out of a very deep sleep! The explosions kept getting louder and louder, and each one came closer to the one before. Confused by the loud noise, she jumped out of her bed and started moving around the room, shuddering, and puzzled, she then found herself back in the bed. Her head was spinning, she was not sure if she jumped into the bed, or if she fell into it. She lay in one spot for seconds to gather her composure and noticed the explosions came with very bright flashes of light. Is it a lightning storm? She asked herself. She sat up, wobbly and holding her head in her hands. Looking at the dresser directly opposite the bed she was able to focus on an ‘old rusty’ clock she found months back, on the streets, on the side of someone’s trash. Just as she started a walking exercise program recommended by her doctor who was complaining about the few pounds she recently gained.

The clock said 12:05 am., Oh, my God! She cried, It is midnight, I did not intend to be sleeping, what happened?

Earlier in the evening, New Year’s Eve! Her thoughts were consumed by a trip she was taking to revisit her childhood neighborhood, Hibiscus Village, British Guiana. She decided to take a nap before packing for the trip where she plans to spend time with her best friend, Polly, whom she has not visited in over ten years. They have seen each other during this period as Polly visits Ginger from time to time, but Ginger has not visited Polly. Her nap turned into a deep sleep which may have been her subconscious, letting her rest to gain strength for what was before her in Hibiscus Village.

This cannot be happening, she thought. It is the fireworks display on New Year’s! It is the New Year! She could not allow herself to sleep at this time. ‘Happy New Year to me!’ She wished herself. She must be traveling shortly, and her time could not afford this length of sleep. She was not packed and had planned on meeting with her neighbors for a small gathering to welcome in the New Year, as they have done in their beautiful quaint apartment complex for the last few years; then she would leave for the train station to go on her trip to Hibiscus Village, the neighborhood where she grew up.

Standing in front of her closet with unfocused eyes, not knowing what to pack, she looked again at her old rusty’ clock, realizing she just had minutes to leave for her train’s departure. With the time restraint, she thought this would be one of those trips where she might have to go shopping for what she needed or borrow from Polly because there was not enough time to pack anything. There will be a Thrift Shop in Polly’s area to shop for anything necessary.

She dressed in an outfit she had bought from a Thrift Store for pennies on the dollar, most recently; a beautiful yellow dress with a matching over coat, which she accessorized with a strand of pearls she gave herself for her last birthday. She loved this strand of pearls so much that she wore it constantly, and found it went well with everything she paired it with. This yellow ensemble looks like it once had a life in the closet of a prosperous person. Ginger bought it the moment she saw it in the Thrift Store in her neighborhood and loves the way it fits her now curvy body. After being pencil-thin her entire life, she found the weight she gained was pleasing to her. She did not care how she looked to anyone, she just liked how she felt in her body. Her doctor was concerned about the weight gain and wanted her to drop about seven to ten pounds, with which she disagreed. With a couple of changes of clothing and toiletries in her bag, she left for the train.

The sun was not up, but there were a few rays of light present in the sky announcing morning was approaching. It was a beautiful dry and cool morning, the air felt fresh as she stepped out of her apartment to a waiting taxi service. Arriving at the train station fifteen minutes later, she was early for her train’s departure, she sat and composed herself while she waited on her train.

As the time for boarding approached, she got an entire booth that seats four, all for herself. Feeling pleased that she visited the beauty shop the day before, where she had her hair cut short at the back and curled moderately around her ears while the top came down to reach past her ear line. Her nails were natural, short, and had just a coat of clear nail polish. While her doctor was unhappy with the few extra pounds, she carried in her five-foot-five-inch frame, she was happy with the way she felt. She said to Polly recently, I look like I have not missed a meal in a while. After being very thin all her life, she was feeling comfortable with her size, especially having a bust line that is now visible. It took two bra sizes plus from where she was, to give her the fit she now has, which she loves. In addition to her bust, she was happy with her legs and was delighted to be wearing clothes to show them off.

As for the doctor, well, let him worry about the extra weight she is carrying around.

On the two-hour train ride, on the British Guiana Rail, Ginger was able to relax and calm her nerves a bit about the visit she was undertaking. Nonetheless, fearful thoughts and sad memories went with her, and to distract her mind from those thoughts, she
