Iswear, I was probably walking right into a trap. My friend was sitting by my side of the couch and we were in a nightclub. Not the best of places to have a blind date. He told me — more like he set me up for this blind date, telling me that everything was going to go perfectly. I didn't know anything about that. I came here mostly because I was curious about what kind of woman was going to show up.

Probably, it was going to be someone around my age. Most — and I didn't want to say this lightly — were like this. They were always looking for the next guy that was going to show something different, show them that they were missing something, or something of the sort. I wasn't anyone like that.

In fact, I was someone completely different. I didn't come here to show that woman — whoever she could — anything too different. If anything, she — if she showed up — was going to find out that there was nothing particularly different about me.

I was a gym instructor, so I knew what I was doing, especially when it came to blind dates like this one.

My friend, meanwhile, just couldn't stop smiling. It was as though he was finding this all very funny. I could imagine that he was.

There was something very funny about me going out on a blind date, hoping that it was going to stick. Look, I didn't even know anything about the person that I was going to see, and that was the entire point of it, wasn't it?

I shook my head. My friend was toying with me, making me feel embarrassed. I couldn't help but wonder how I would even approach the woman — the one on this blind date, I meant.

I would know her when she showed up in the nightclub, despite the number of people inside the building. It was a little difficult to see what was happening around me, but I'd been in the Army and people there told me that I had the eyes of a hawk.
