    About the Author

For Kyle. Thank you for being you. Thank you for always pushing me to Jesus. I am a better version of myself because of you. I love you.

    Introduction

    Hey there,

I wanted to introduce myself before we move forward. My name is Tanya, and I am a fully committed follower of Jesus; a grateful wife to my husband, Kyle; and a sweet, unconventional momma to my two greatest accomplishments, Judah and Willow.

I am also a recovering drug addict and alcoholic.

I got sober on January 7, 2010, and was baptized on March 21, 2010.

I didn't experience the overnight miraculous healing some receive at salvation. I received the more long-suffering sort.

I was still in rehab undoing a lifetime of unhealthy coping mechanisms, addictions, broken relationships, and a soul-crushing lifestyle. I was letting go of everyone and everything I knew. I couldn't comprehend basic concepts, let alone an ancient document like the Bible.

Every day I would just talk to God as if He were my best friend, inviting Him into the depths of my broken soul. I would weep and talk in circles for hours. I would call Him dude, asking random questions about Haiti and His will for the narwhal. Every night I would read scripture like a fortune cookie, randomly skimming along, hoping for some answer while not really understanding a word.

    But God!

He met me there. He answered me; He healed me. He is still healing me.

He didn't need my church clothes or fancy Christian language. He needed and wanted my heart, and honestly, living in the back of my car during that season, that was all I had to offer.

The heart behind this devotional stems from that place. From the place of complete openness yet uncertainty. From a place of complete ignorance and bliss. From a place of seeking yet not understanding.

I walked into a church with three different hair colors, piercings all over my face and clothes that didn't leave much to the imagination, and I was met with love yet misunderstanding. Until I met a biker club that all had experiences similar to mine—that had sketchy pasts but lived out a healed present. They walked with me as I learned to complete normal sentences and taught me the basics of the Bible. They lived out who Jesus was, not just speaking about Him from their ivory towers.

I want to share that love and wisdom with you. I want to help those of us that are just starting out. It's okay to not look or sound the part. God sees your heart. We will forever grow into the whole version of who God has called us to be. But for some of us, we just have to put down the bottle first.

Over the next few months, I pray God fully reveals His deep, wild love for you. I pray you begin the beautiful process of healing and receive the healing truths and identity God has for you. I pray the old ideals, morals, and core beliefs come crashing down and are rebuilt with the love, truth, and identity God has ordained for you.

I love you, and I am so proud of you for even picking up this book. Let's walk this out together.

    With love,

    Tanya
