    FEARLESS SPEAKING

    INTRODUCTION

Back in 2012 when I was in high school, I was called to speak to a group of about 150 students at the school's weekly Christian students gathering, Fellowship of Christian Students.

Some genius thought it was a good idea to have me make the announcements that day. David, give announcements? How hilarious could this be?

Now my blood pressure must have been around 200 over 120, a result of the extreme tension that swallowed my courage. Standing before this enormous crowd of over a hundred, I began to stammer, stutter, mumble and there was this soundtrack playing in my head. The lyrics were, Get me out of here, get me out of here, get me out of here. As though the mental trauma I was going through wasn't sufficient enough, a girl in the crowd said, This boy cannot talk. At this point I couldn't decide if to collapse right there or rush back to my seat.

You could hash tag this the most humiliating day of my life.

Statistics say that 41 per cent of adults rate the fear of public speaking above any other phobia even the fear of death. Crazy right? And of course you probably must have heard about these stats. But it's a bummer to think that most of us would rather die seating in our chairs than speak to audiences. That was possibly the reason I wanted to collapse as I gave the announcements.

The most terrifying part is that the world's number one phobia is the one phobia that must be overcome to attain the most important skill in life - The Art of Communication.

You will always have to give talks in your profession, to business prospects, to co workers, to higher ups
