Dedication
I want to dedicate this book to my baby
sister Olivia who we lost but still love.
Acknowledgments
I want to thank everyone who helped with this story. My grandpa Nick Mills listened to and typed parts of the story as I told it to him. He also recorded me telling other parts of the story and then typed those parts up. I would like to thank Bren Laken for reviewing, commenting on, catching, and helping us fix a number of plot holes. I would also like to thank Mike Thayer for looking over the story in its early phases and for his online writing class for youth, and for sharing his ideas. I also want to thank my grandma Donna for having a set of skeleton keys for decoration on the key-hook board by her front door. These keys gave me the idea for the name of the book and the key in Robbie the dragon’s mouth on the cover.
About Dragon Keys
Three middle-grade age girls (Emma, Kate, Sophie) discover one day that their lockers at school are glowing brightly. This adventure for Sophie, Emma, Kate, and their friends that they meet along the way is about saving the dragons and finding their way back home.
––––––––
None of the other kids seem to notice so the girls ask them if they can see the blinding light. All of them say, No. What are you talking about? You're crazy.
––––––––
The three girls are the only ones who can see the glowing lockers. It was some kind of magic that allowed Sophie, Kate and Emma to see the glowing lockers.
––––––––
Kate, Emma and Sophie knew each other earlier, but they did not know they had this surprising magic in common. They were about to discover what it was and what it meant.
––––––––
Some things you should know include that Emma is allergic to pine trees. Kate loves pine trees. Why? She just loves them! Sophie’s eyes are green like emeralds and the warthogs love emeralds. Oh, wait. I haven’t told you about the warthogs, but I will.
––––––––
The girls must journey into the world of dragons and warthogs, but why? How will they get there? Keep reading. Let me tell you.
Foreword
I’ve had the privilege of editing around fifty books and have enjoyed each one for different reasons. I’ve known Evalynn (Evie) since she was very small. I have the blessing of being one of her grandpas. We have had fun telling stories back and forth to each other since she was little.
––––––––
A few months before she turned nine years old, she told me she was writing a book. I smiled and thought it was wonderful. What grandpa wouldn’t be proud of his granddaughter wanting to write a book, especially starting at age eight.
––––––––
She lived a few hundred miles away, so I didn’t get a chance to talk with her in person for a few months. Then one time when she visited with her family, she started telling me her story. One of my friends, Mike Thayer, an excellent storyteller for kids has made many school visits. He also teaches an online storytelling and writing class for kids. I took that class with Evie, and we talked about it and her story.
Mike answered some of her questions and I answered some of the others. She was starting to be a very good storyteller.

In fact, one time as she was
