Chapter 1: Discovery

Dawn Newman, a fourteen year old girl raised by a single mom, reflected in a mirror on her life. She had light skin due to both her ancestry and not going outside much, black curly hair, green eyes, and a light build. Based on what her mother, Sara Newman, had told her, as soon as she was conceived, her father did not want to have to raise a child, and since they never married, he tried to leave the mother-to-be with nothing other than a child. They still had a home, clean water, and electricity by the time Dawn was born, and her mother survived giving birth. Dawn knew this meant she was illegitimate, but neither her nor her mother minded.

For some reason, Dawn seemed to have the superpower to detect threats to herself and how to move to evade it. Although her strength was below average for a girl of her age, she still had agility, though that was also within possibility for ordinary humans. Jumping back to the here and now, she decided to go back to her bedroom, which had a nice bed. As she looked around, Sara said, You should go for a walk, darling. But first, how about a hug?

Dawn accepted, went to her, and they exchanged a hug both of them liked. Dawn got out of her pajamas and into a dark gray t-shirt that had pockets, cargo shorts, a long skirt that was also dark gray, and she decided to put on plain socks, as she wasn’t wearing them before.
