Bypass the Coronary Bypass Surgery - Suresh Bhagia

    Preface

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide. For many, the diagnosis culminates in the recommendation of a coronary bypass surgery—a procedure that, while lifesaving, comes with its own set of risks and challenges. But what if there were ways to potentially bypass this surgery altogether?

This book is born out of a passion for understanding the heart, not just as a mechanical organ but as the epicenter of our emotional and physical well-being. Within these pages, readers will find a blend of scientific research, traditional wisdom, and practical advice aimed at nurturing the heart and preventing the conditions that lead to invasive procedures.

Bypass the Coronary Bypass Surgery is more than just a guide; it's a journey. A journey of understanding the intricate balance of diet, exercise, mental well-being, and the myriad factors that play into our heart health. It's a call to action—a plea for readers to take their heart health into their own hands, armed with knowledge and a proactive approach.

As you navigate through the chapters, you'll encounter stories, studies, and strategies that shed light on the lesser-known aspects of heart health. Whether you're a patient, a caregiver, a medical professional, or someone simply interested in understanding the heart better, this book aims to provide you with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about your health.

In the end, the heart of the matter is simple: our hearts deserve the best, and with the right knowledge and approach, we can give them just that.

Coronary artery disease is often termed the widow-maker disease, as it poses a swift and severe threat. While women are not immune to coronary blockages, men are disproportionately affected both in terms of quantity and severity.

In March 2023, Indian newspapers and social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter, reported the heart attack experienced by Ms. Sushmita Sen, the 1994 Miss Universe pageant winner and the first Indian woman to hold the title. Despite her mid-forties and apparent physical fitness, Sushmita's heart revealed a startling 95% blockage in her left main coronary artery. It's worth noting that a non-vegetarian dietary lifestyle significantly contributes to coronary artery blockages, as contrasted with the disciplined daily yoga and strict vegetarian diet of Bollywood icons like Shrimati Rekha and Shri Akshay Kumar, both known for their outstanding health.

I've had the privilege of collaborating with several pioneering international heart surgeons in the field of cardiac sciences. Among them are:

Dr. Denton Cooley (my mentor) at the Texas Heart Institute

Dr. Michael DeBakey at Methodist Hospital

Dr. Magdi Yacoub at Harefield Hospital

    John Reardon in Wellington

Dr. M. R. Girinath at Apollo Hospital

    Dr. KM Cherian in Chennai

Dr. Gunness at SSR National Hospital in Mauritius

    Dr. Carlos Duran of Montana

and Dr. Alain Carpentier of Paris, renowned for his work in heart valve surgery, along with Professor Albert Starr of Oregon, the creator of the Starr-Edwards ball in cage heart valve. Additionally, I've had the honour of working alongside Professor Sir Brian Barratt-Boyes of Greenlane Hospital, New Zealand, and numerous others. These experiences have provided me with a broad exposure and profound expertise in cardiothoracic surgery.

I have presented research papers at various international conferences and meetings across different countries, including Japan, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Thailand, Uganda, and Mauritius, among others. These presentations covered a wide range of topics, from coronary artery disease to coronary-cameral fistula, mitral valve repair, and the use of the left anterior small thoracotomy (LAST) approach for mitral valve disease, as well as complex cardiac surgery. This book is a professional treatise aimed at a layman's understanding.

In my journey to contribute positively to the universe, I've found that when one's intentions are genuine, the universe conspires to assist. This principle guided me as I embarked on writing this book. Dr. Christiaan Barnard believed that preventive medicine could impact 150 million lives more effectively than performing 150 heart transplants. I have embraced this philosophy in my own work.

    Foreword

In the ever-evolving world of medical science, the quest for non-invasive and preventive measures has always been at the forefront. Bypass the Coronary Bypass Surgery is not just a book; it's a testament to the power of lifestyle, nutrition, and holistic approaches in the face of one of the most common and daunting surgical procedures. As you delve into these pages, you'll discover a treasure trove of insights, research, and practical advice that challenges conventional wisdom and offers a fresh perspective on heart health.

During his two years with our service, he has participated in a large volume and variety of cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures. He is a mature, experienced, and capable surgeon with the potential to become a strong asset to his country and his profession.

    - late Dr. Denton Cooley, Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Texas Heart Institute.

Good luck, buddy. I appreciate your hard work and research on the subject of nutrition.  You will be doing the right kind of service to your patients by showing them the way to bypass the bypass operation, as told online  to the author in February 2023 by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., - Speaker of Forks and Knives and author of the New York Times bestseller Prevent and reverse heart disease.

I have known the author, Dr. Suresh Bhagia, as a successful cardiac surgeon for a decade. It is commendable and sensitive on his part to try and help his patients avoid a surgical operation whenever possible by offering them alternative scientific methods. — Dr Vinod Agrawal, Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, SVP Hospital, Paldi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

We need qualified experts like you in the field of medicine to convince patients to change their dietary habits and thereby reverse chronic lifestyle diseases- as told to the author by Naturopath Green Doctor Rajesh Patel, Founder of YogaAhar or Food Engineering and Natural Diet System (modified New Diet System = NDS) at Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

    About the Author

Dr. Suresh Bhagia, an international cardiovascular surgeon, is a humanitarian, charitable heart surgeon interested in preventive medicine and lifestyle disease management using natural wellness methods. Dr. Bhagia recollects how Professor Magdi Yacoub once prayed for a thousand hands, so that by multiple surgeries he would make the world free of heart disease. Sathya Sai Baba's words, What could be better than preventing disease instead of doing surgery, whenever possible? Love all, serve all, resonate deeply with me.

I've been fortunate to have two influential mentors in my life. Dr. Denton Cooley, my first mentor, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., my second online mentor, have played pivotal roles in shaping my viewpoints in my medical career. Dr. Rene Favaloro, the father of coronary bypass surgery, shared a locker room with my current online mentor, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. This unique combination of mentors, one focusing on preventing heart disease and the other on performing coronary bypass surgery, has enriched my ability to serve my patients effectively.

In essence, this book aims to liberate readers from cardiac symptoms. Following the DiME program guidelines detailed in this book should lead to laboratory test results that mirror near-normalcy, reducing the need for any medical interventions or procedures in heart disease patients.
