    Introduction

This book is about the process of having a new life with Christ. But just for a minute, I have to tell you a little bit about me. Sorry, hang in there. I must give you some idea of where I'm coming from.

I am a registered nurse (RN).

I attended the University of Michigan–Flint for some prerequisites, then transferred to Michigan State. But the overwhelming campus and classes made me feel very lost, and I plummeted into depression. Therefore, I came home and finished my degree at Mott Community College.

Due to a head injury on a snowmobile trip months after my dad passed, my cognition changed. It affected my memory and concentration and worsened my depression. I noticed this while working. As an RN, you cannot make mistakes or work slowly and must be a great multitasker, ready to respond to emergencies immediately. I did get years of experience in ER, psychiatric nursing, home care, pre–MRI screening, and geriatrics. Unfortunately, I had to go on disability, but I became a chaplain through the International Fellowship of Chaplains and became a Stephen minister and did many hospital visits nurturing the souls of sick people.

Because of my cognitive decline, I really have to work on comprehending reading material. It was a struggle and still is. I was determined to know the Bible deeper.

I did all volunteer chaplain work after this, and it was an adjustment in self-esteem to not make money when I was in a lucrative career once. A measly disability check gave me some feeling of worth and contribution to the household. There was still that inner self-esteem struggle, and that grief and pain would sneak up often. I truly gained empathy for those with any kind of disability and how the world can make you feel like you don't matter.

It was through serving Christ that I realized all trauma we endure is used in the end. Looking back through my life, the moments in my life that were horrific all had meaning.

I wanted to make a difference for Christ to leave a good legacy as a strong woman of God above all other accomplishments.

The reason I wanted to tell you a little about myself is that I endured much trauma, most of which I won't waste your time sharing here, but we all endure trauma to some degree. We have a choice to use it or let it pick away at us by making an effort to heal.

The key to changing your life to becoming Christ-focused is wanting it.

The key is wanting healing in your soul for the sake of others.

The key is hard-core Christian counseling with those wiser than you, filling my mind with the word in weekly Bible study, and having strong Christian mentors.

The focus must become Christ and others and off yourself.

When you have dreams but pain slows you down, sometimes to a dead stop, do not give up. Keep pushing. Push for years!

Christ will transform you into everything you thought you could be, and that is all about your soul.

We are here for one another, not ourselves.

However, selfishness will inhibit growth within you. It's a huge step to realize that our grief, depression, and anxiety are from negative self-focus.

When you begin to look out and see others' needs before your own, God will do wonders within you.

The beauty that develops from caring all about others brings a shine to your soul that folks will need sunglasses to come by you. That is the Holy Spirit! It never leaves you.

May you be blessed by this book.

May you become Christlike and see the world as your mission field, not your own world!

It's all about blessing others that the blessing falls back onto you tenfold! I promise.

Becoming selfless takes work, but that work is permanent if the focus is on Christ.

Now along the way, I was burned for trusting the wrong people. I felt extremely alone at times, and I cried a lot, but not continuously and less frequently the more I made Christ the center.

As I have said, it is a process, but once you begin to change through endurance and
