Disciplined By Her Neighbor - Annika Stout

    Chapter One

O oooooh! Ooooooh! Mia was giving it her all, chanting along with Aida, Radames, and Amneris, the most romantic love triangle in history. Her favorite musical had it all: Enemies turned lovers, passion, heartbreak, and death.

The hard banging on her door cut her off mid-sentence.

Who dared to interrupt in the middle of the best song? This better be important, she thought.

She looked through the spy hole to check who the intruder was.

    Fuck!

Her ultra-hot next-door neighbor stood in the hallway. Mia had checked him out in the elevator a few times. He wasn't very friendly, he greeted back but wouldn't even look at her. Probably shy, she figured. But now he was here, knocking on her door. Would he ask her out on a date? She wasn't prepared at all for unannounced visits. Her place was a mess and she hadn't even had the chance to get dressed or put on a little make-up yet.

Just a moment, she called, rushing to the washroom.

Mia splashed water on her face and pulled her hair into a ponytail. As fast as possible she applied a bit of mascara on her eyelashes and pinched her cheeks. Not perfect but much better. Her summer pajamas, a set of blue shorts, and a matching spaghetti top were sexy enough to show off, no need to get changed. Maybe it’ll work to her advantage, she hoped.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the door, a big smile on her face to greet the beautiful man from next door.

    Wow!

Mia was confronted with pure masculinity. The fresh scent of sports soap filled the air the moment the door swung open. He wasn’t wearing shoes or slippers, he was barefoot. Her gaze lifted, taking in her hot neighbor. He was dressed in dark blue jeans and nothing else. His muscular arms crossed in front of his naked chest. The hint of dark hair below his belly button signed the trail down to the bulge in his jeans. Mia had to remind herself to close her mouth and stop drooling. Meeting his penetrating eyes, she couldn’t figure out if they were blue or green, it was something in between with a hint of gray in it. She would have to check it out in the sunlight, she decided.

Hi, I'm Mia, she said, offering her hand to greet him officially.

But her smile wasn't returned and neither was her handshake. Instead, he was glaring down at her, his arms still crossed with the hands tucked in under his folded arms.

    Turn. Down. Your. Music.

His voice was hostile and threatening. The sound of it made something stir in between Mia’s legs. Her pussy had always been a traitor when it came to assholes but her mind wasn’t. She dropped her abandoned hand.

Was this guy for real? she wondered.

It’s 11:00 AM on a Saturday, I can turn my music as loud as I want to, Mia answered.

To give her argument more support, she put her hands on her hips, glaring at her rude yet incredibly mouthwatering neighbor.

Some of us are busy saving people's lives at night and have to sleep during the day. Turn. Down. Your. Music.

Could this guy be any more arrogant? Was he really trying to impress her by hinting he was a doctor? But his words did affect her. Distracted her, her mind wandering off to imagine her neighbor at work. Jeans. Crisp white doctor’s coat. Opened up. Bare chest. A stethoscope dangling from the neck.

Mia forced herself to come back to reality. Her constant hornyness made it extremely hard to think clearly when she was in the presence of a handsome man.

Use earplugs, she recommended with a hint of sarcasm.

The best ear plugs couldn’t block out the noise you are making.

"Get a house. Your career choice is hardly my problem."

I’m warning you because I'm a nice guy.

Ha! Mia was trying not to laugh. Was this a prank?

    Turn. Down. Your. Music.

Not waiting for another answer, he left her standing, going back to his apartment. When his door closed, Mia was still there, open-mouthed, trying to register what had just happened. In her head, she kept on rewinding the conversation. A nice guy? Very funny, she had to give it to him, he did have humor. Her blood was boiling though and it was time to match the music to her mood.

The electric violin blasted from the soundbar. The subwoofer made Mia feel the sound, the vibrations of the bass going right through her body. Music was her passion. At work, she wasn't able to play music but at home, no one could forbid her to listen to it.

The thing was, if her neighbor had asked politely, she would have reduced the volume or even put on her headphones. But talking to her like he did, demanding her to turn down the music? No hello, no please, no thank you? No way!

Maybe doctors didn’t need to be polite, because people depended on them but Mia worked in customer relations, and for her, being polite was part of basic behavior 101.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mia's doorbell rang. She usually didn't have any unannounced visits so she tried to remember if she had ordered something online. Answering the intercom, her suspicion was confirmed, the mailman was waiting in front of the building for her to sign off on a delivery. Excited for an unexpected package, Mia skipped down the stairs, too impatient to wait for the elevator to come up to the third floor.

    A registered letter?

Mia’s mood dropped instantly. Hopefully not a speeding ticket again, it did look like an official envelope. Something told her she was in trouble. Going back up in the elevator, she looked at the sender. K. Armstrong from Armstrong Real Estate Investors.

Why was Kaine Armstrong, her landlord, sending her a registered letter? It was too early for the lease renewal as she had just moved in four months ago.

Mr. Armstrong was a very good-looking man, probably somewhere in the second half of his forties, always dressed in a suit and tie. His appearance and manners were speckless. His authority reminded Mia of the feeling back in school when she was being called into the director’s office.

He had told her that handpicking the tenants who lived in his buildings was his successful strategy of not having any issues. Even though he definitely could have hired a company to take care of these things, he chose to do them himself. The day she moved in, he went through the whole lease agreement with her, explaining to her the things she didn’t understand. Then he gave her his cell phone number, insisting she could call him 24/7 if ever a problem would arise.

Mia sat down at her little round kitchen table, opening the envelope with a knife. It was such a neat envelope, she didn’t allow herself to
