About this ebook

What happens when all of your children move out? This collection of poetry is a healing journey in self-discovery. It takes the reader through various stages of grief, insight, hope, and new beginnings. A poignant, inspired, and assured debut collection which transfixes the reader while resonating deeply.

The authenticity of these poems reveals the real experiences and raw emotions one feels when their child has moved on. The writing is emotive and powerfully beautiful in its expression of the truth and confrontation one feels about having an empty nest.

Author

Kim Hiles

Kim has enjoyed writing poetry since she was a child. She remembers, as a young adult, her grandmother telling her she wrote beautiful letters and had a way with words. Later in life, this memory would be a catalyst for sitting down and writing her memoir. This led to writing and publishing two more books. After sharing some of her poetry with family members, she was encouraged to write this book of poetry, her first collection. For Kim, poetry is a healing and creative expression. Kim has been an educator for over twenty years, working with students socially and emotionally.

Moments as They Come - Kim Hiles

    Time Warp

What is this baby of mine?

    From whence did he come?

    A mix of emotions

    On this sterile hospital bed

I love so much it hurts

    How will I protect him?

    This fragile and curious

    Innocent

    I, too, feel like two

    Not so blue

    The enthusiasm and laughter

    This rambunctious ball of energy

    How is he five?

    Ready for school

    I’m ripped in half

    Find work is the jewel

    Ten so alive

    Laughter fills the home

    Hurts have come and gone

    Yet my childhood is reborn

    Sixteen is sweet

    It’s true what they say

He’s been a walk in the park

    Clear as day

    Get prepared

    Emotions are churning

    Looking at colleges

    Depression rising

A new chapter on the horizon…

    The River

River bends, I can’t see it

    Sparkling lights

    Shimmering off the water

    I look down

    What do I see?

    I see an old
