About this ebook

Embark on a riveting interstellar journey with "Into the Abyss: A Space Odyssey." Ian, a seasoned crew member, finds himself thrust into the heart of an unexpected emergency when the Captain urgently summons him. As the spaceship hurtles through the cold vacuum of space, mysteries unfold, and the crew is faced with an enigmatic rescue mission.

Join Ian as he navigates the vast corridors of the spacecraft, equipped with gravitational panels that defy the disorienting challenges of early simulations. The control room becomes a hive of activity, with holographic maps and murmured discussions shaping the fate of the crew.

Captain Adam's stern voice pierces the tension as he reveals the gravity of the situation—an incident on the ISS 14, casualties, and lost contact with Earth. The crew, originally bound for a routine mining operation, now finds themselves at the forefront of a life-saving mission.

Feel the hum of the ship beneath your feet as it gains speed, hurtling towards the distant stars. The view outside, adorned with countless celestial bodies, serves as a poignant reminder of humanity's insignificance in the vastness of space.

As the crew approaches the ISS 14, the plot thickens. Unfolding before your eyes is a cinematic spectacle—a spacewalk, an open airlock, and an unsettling absence of life signs. The crew's bewilderment intensifies, setting the stage for a high-stakes journey into the unknown.

"Into the Abyss" offers a gripping narrative that transcends the boundaries of Earth, blending moments of claustrophobia with the awe-inspiring beauty of the cosmos. Will Ian and his crew unravel the mysteries surrounding the ISS 14, or will they be consumed by the unforgiving darkness of space? Prepare for an immersive experience that combines suspense, adventure, and the unexplored wonders of the universe.

    Space Rescue (contos, #1)

Ian, didn't you hear the Captain calling?

    Carter asked.

I moved my gaze from the notes on my desk and looked in his direction.

He was standing by the entrance to my room, hands on his hips.

    He looked furious and impatient.

What's going on? I asked. We have an emergency. HQ wants to send us on a rescue mission.

Rescue who? I raised my eyebrows.

No idea. The briefings already started. Come on, let's get to the control room.

Before I could ask him anything else, he turned and went down the hallway.

I arranged my notes neatly and exited my room.

The corridor leading down echoed with my footsteps and Carter's own in the distance.

The spaceship was big enough for me to still sometimes lose direction, but at least it

was equipped with gravitational panels, so we could get around more easily without floating

and getting disoriented, like in the early stages of the simulation.

I turned right at the corner and I saw Carter stop in front of the control room door.

He turned around and waited for me to get closer.

Once I did, he pressed the big square button next to the door, which made it slide sideways.

Immediately we were hit by the sound of murmurs, as our other crew members discussed something

around the holographic map in the middle.

On the crew was a row of control panels sitting in front of a huge pane of glass.

I glanced at the dark space beyond the glass, filled with hundreds of stars in the distance,

    unreachable still to mankind.

It often made me realize how insignificant we are and how easily we can get swept away

in an instant, and this cold abyss and nobody would ever even know.

I was shaken back to reality by Captain Adam's stern voice.

Again, light again, sit down, he said.

The crew consisted of six members altogether, and we had mandatory meetings every morning

in the evening to go through the list of inspections.

So when Carter called me for an unexpected meeting at 5pm, I knew that something must

    have gone terribly wrong.

I sat down and waited for the captain to speak, he said.

Earlier today there was an incident on board the ISS 14.

We don't know what exactly happened but supposedly there are casualties and earth-loss contact

    with them.

HQ wants us to go there immediately and provide rescue to anyone alive.

But that place is pretty far away.
