The FIFA World Cup is arguably football’s greatest prize, and is the more important, because it is played every 4 years, when 32 national teams (the 32-teams format has been used since 1998) are trying to enjoy a month they will never forget, especially their fans, which are always cheering up on their favourites.

This is my second football (soccer) statistics book, the first one being about the UEFA Champions League, the best club football competition in the world.

The first part took over a year to be completed (2016-2017), while the second one, took over two months (January-March 2019).

Every goalscorer, every goal, every own goal, every tournament, and, in the second part, every team’s opponents, by continents or regions (e.g. Central America).

Introduction

As we all know, the UEFA Champions League (UCL) is the most prestigious and greatest club football competition in the world. Who can say it isn't?

This is my first book of football statistics, choosing the UEFA Champions League, considering it the greatest club football competition in the world.

I started to watch UEFA Champions League games, live on television, in my first full season as a football fan (the 2006-07 season). It had an immediate impact on my appreciation for this amazing competition, and, in the late summer of 2014, I started to calculate, write down and record the performances, numbers, and the overall stats for every club which took part in at least one UEFA Champions League season (no qualifying rounds, only beginning with the group stages), since the introduction of the new format, starting with the 1992-93 season. 

After that, more and more ideas took shape, for more interesting, and, I hope, unique information, analysis and comparisons.

As soon as I finished the overall stats for each team that took part in at least one UCL season, starting with the group stages, I could make up the all-time UEFA Champions League table, editing it season by season, until present day, as well as all the other stats, which the readers are going to see.

From its anthem, composed by Tony Britten, back in 1992, to the sensational atmosphere, the stadiums, the fans, the competition's logo, the so motivated players, every about this competition is just exceptional. The UEFA Champions League – the greatest club football competition in the world!
