poet has endeavoured to give poetic expression to her feelings of the
meaninglessness of the materialistic life. She thinks that if a person
believes that the human body is the “self”, he or she develops only
materialistic outlook in life. His or her aim is to achieve success in
material pursuits by any means, whatsoever, and focuses more on

Preface

A tiny seed tries to sprout out of the earth and goes through the challenges of being stamped upon by the passers-by, being eaten by a bird or may just die due to the fear of facing the harsh sunlight and choosing to remain in the darkness. It may also choose to be courageous to face the unexplored, the unknown or simply the infinite…

Life is a choice. The tiny soul inside the egg exerts from within to face the mysterious and unfamiliar challenges outside the shell. The baby bird learns to fly in the wide-open, blue, boundless, limitless firmament. All creatures big or small have a definite soul path where they choose to soar.

The awakened mind is determined to rise from the ashes like a phoenix, choosing light and defeating all darkness. All answers are to be found within the silent and tranquil moments when united with the elements as the soul embarks upon an inner journey in search of Ambrosia and to become light.

Foreword

The world is passing through a period of realignment. Every aspect of human life is directly or indirectly influenced by the wonders of science and technology. The present world is the world of speed and sophistication. People seem to have little time to read and appreciate works of literary value. The reading habit has become almost extinct among children.

At this juncture, it is a matter of pride and pleasure to write down my thoughts on the anthology of poems written by Ms Sonali Ghosh. I consider it an honour to have had the opportunity to be closely acquainted with Sonali for over eight years.

Indeed, Sonali’s poems elucidate the message and the beauty of her poems much better than my notes can because the themes of the poems encompass several levels of experiences arising from the personal experiences of the poet herself and some of them are self-explanatory. It appears to me that the poet has endeavoured to give poetic expression to her feelings of the meaninglessness of the materialistic life. She thinks that if a person believes that the human body is the self, he or she develops a materialistic outlook on life. His or her aim is to achieve success in material pursuits by any means, whatsoever, and focus more on mundane objects.

In Sonali’s poems one can see the amalgamation of wisdom, poetic insight and spirituality intertwined with one another. In this collection of poems, it can be seen that Sonali is not just an admirer of beauty in Nature but a seeker of truth and a devout singer of the beauty of Nature. Like the Romantic poets, Sonali the teacher poet sees beauty in Nature. The motivations of a teacher and a poet are, perhaps, similar. Like Keats and Wordsworth, Sonali is inspired by Nature and for the poet, Nature is a
