    About The Author

    Chapter 1

    Vision

Leo ran across the suspension bridge between the treehouses. He almost bumped into his mom, who was pulling a basket with washed laundry up on the deck.

    Leofrid, watch out! she called.

Sorry, mom! he shouted back, grabbing a rope tied to the rafter of their treehouse and swung to the ground.

Can I come too, Leo? Aislinn, his little sister, ran after him.

If you can catch up. Leo winked, but slowed down so she wouldn’t fall too far behind.

Trees and bushes were covered with fresh, bright green leaves and bird calls were coming from all around.

They jumped over a little creek.

Where are you going? Arundel, Leo’s younger and Aislinn’s older brother, was sitting by the creek, shaping a hazel branch into a bow.

We’ll be making some bramble cord. Leo said.

Would it be good for a bowstring?

I never used it for a bow, you may be better to wait till dad comes back from hunting. I just want to have some around for building and stuff.

Ah. I’ll come help you when I’m done. Arundel got back to whittling.

See you then. Leo and Aislinn broke back into running.

This close to the permanent camp that their parents, Robin Hood and Marian, set up in the Sherwood forest, they were perfectly safe and didn’t need to stop to check for potential threats or to cover their tracks.

Soon they reached the bramble patch.

Leo pulled out a rag from his belt pouch and used it to grab a young bramble stalk. With his knife he cut outward, close to the ground. He cut one more stalk and gave it to Aislinn.

Ouch. She pricked her finger with a thorn.

I should have some more rags. Leo pulled another cloth from his belt pouch and gave it to his sister. To get rid of the thorns you run it down with the rag like this. He showed her on his stalk, then scraped the top bark with the blunt side of his knife. He put the stalk on a nearby log and started to hit it with a stick to separate the fibres.

How's it going? Arundel emerged from the bushes, with the carved stick in his hand.

I’ll need some more. Could you check if Aislinn needs help? Leo already twisted most of the green fibres he got from his stalk, but Aislinn was still hitting hers with a stick.

When Leo cut another stalk, his finger got scratched with a thorn. He got up, ignoring the tiny wound, but suddenly he felt weak and fell to the ground.

Leo? He heard Arundel’s worried voice, but the sound was muffled.

He felt like he was falling through mist. He passed by some tree branches and started to glide through the air, between
