    Chapter 1

    Power

    Power

What is power and all it entails? The Webster definition, the ability to do something or act in a particular way, especially as a faculty or quality. But that is only a pebble in the ocean of the definition of power. Power goes into every characteristic, every source of strength. Whether it’s the power of faith, the power of love, the power of perseverance, the power of hate, or the power of failure. In Charlotte, North Carolina we just experienced tropical storm Ian and our power went out. Now, we were prepared, but it amazed me how not having power can change life so dramatically. It makes you have to focus on things that you so blindly took advantage of. So, that begs the question: do we really have power or is that just an illusion. How powerful would one be that, through advantages, they can make a group of people believe they have power. Because advantages and power are not the same thing.

So, what if your words carried no weight in power?

Moreover, what if your actions limited the power of your words?

    February 25th, 1988, 5:13 p.m.

As the door closed, the Chief was sitting in the chair in his office. Comfortable, at ease that the plan he set in motion was foolproof. It wasn’t in question form, where he was asking how or why, it was in statement form, this is going to work or, it had no choice but to work. It was amazing how the Chief has gotten to this point. Four hours ago, he was racing for his life and, now? Clear sailing to the finish line. The Chief sat back in his chair and his mind started to piece together what had just transpired.

    February 25th, 1988, 1:07 p.m.

The Chief was scrambling when he heard Judge Roberts had come into the building. And the case he was inquiring about no less.
