    CHAPTER 01:

INTRODUCTION TO THE SOLUBILITY OF ALCOHOL IN WATER AND FAT

Alcohol, as a substance, possesses a peculiar property: it is soluble in both water and fat. This essential characteristic of alcohol has important implications for its interaction with the human body.

When a person consumes alcohol, this substance has the ability to freely penetrate into all cells and tissues of the body. Unlike many other substances and drugs, alcohol does not need to bind to receptors on the cell surface to exert its effects. Instead, it can enter cells directly due to its solubility in both water and fats. This ability for extensive penetration into organs and cells is what largely accounts for alcohol's detrimental effects on the body.

It is important to note that there are three main types of alcohol: isopropyl, methyl and ethyl. Of these, only ethanol, also known as ethyl, is suitable for human consumption. However, it is essential to understand that, despite its suitability for consumption, ethanol is still toxic
