I reshuffle the duffel bag that weighs heavily on my aching arm. Only a few more steps. Of course, the only train out of this little old town had to be right after sunset, and of course, my canceled credit card meant that the only way to get here was by foot.

Everything hurts, the soles of my feet, my heart..

Whatever. Anything is better than that look on Dan’s face.

I can ruin things at home, school, with my friends, I’m used to it, don’t care. But ruining things with Dan? It makes me want to peel off my skin, find the deepest darkest corner of an old basement, and bury myself there. But yet, an overwhelming part of me wants nothing more than to stay by him and earn back his trust. I can behave, right?

Despite how I feel, I push on. My little boots sinking into the muddied grass. No one walks around here, so the paths aren’t exactly foot-friendly.

I stare up at the night sky that looms over the two square buildings forming the train station. Almost there. The darkness and the quiet start of peaceful, it helps sooth my mind, but then just as quickly it turns ominous. I hear a loud screech that cuts through the night like a knife. My heart lurches, Dan? But that’s not his truck..

Princess? A muddied man grins at me from the rolled-down window as he parks his car.

When you’re the only child of two infamous socialite parents, partying gets old and naturally you become drawn to more extreme thrills.

Trust me when I say that my parents usually don’t care about what I do. Trash a hotel room on daddy’s card? No problem. Drink myself sick at the age of thirteen? Completely fine, just so long as no one finds out. But this time, I really really fucked up.

Once word got out that I had been skipping college and hanging around one of the most notorious drug dealers in the city, well that was it for my summer. I seriously doubt they’ll have the attention span to punish me much longer than that.

Still, it’s a giant pain in the ass, no cellphone, no card, and shipped off to stay in the countryside with Uncle Dan and his latest girlfriend. All the while my parents sail the Caribbean on their new yacht I might add. Some great parenting if you ask me! Didn’t even bother to drop me off, they got their freakin’ bodyguard to do it.
