About this ebook

“I, Layla Lecruest, reject you Alpha Sebastian of the Red Moon Pack as my mate.”
Alpha Sebastian lifted his head. His thick hair blew back as the door to the house opened and a wind swept in.
“I, Alpha Sebastian of the Red Moon Pack, accept your rejection.”
Yes, it hurt to be rejected. Your mate was the one person in the entire world that was meant for you and the stories I had heard were glorious. Like the only two pieces of a puzzle, you find each other and become whole. You will never love anyone as you love your mate. And you never got a second chance. It was very rare, and I had just rejected mine.
Layla Lecruest, is a fierce, brave, and strong-willed girl who never cared about fitting in but neither did she plan to stand out as much as she did. Believing to be a normal wolf, the daughter of a former Beta, she never thought herself to be special. Little did she know that she held a gene that many believed to have been gone for a long time.
When she finds out that her mate is the Alpha who spent his life tormenting her, they quickly reject each other on the spot. Unbeknownst to them, Alpha Kade was on his way and would turn everything upside down as her second chance mate. The notorious Alpha Kade was famous for his strength and his ability to lead his pack. He earned respect wherever he went and when he arrived at the Red Moon Pack, he swore he wouldn't leave without his mate.
What happens when Layla finds herself stuck between her former and current mate as well as a pack of wolves with superior powers who thought she belonged to them? And what happens when another, even bigger secret is revealed?
This is book 2 of the trilogy.

At least this one was a little bit better than the last one. The grammatical errors are still there. I would suggest having someone proofread it or reread it for mistake before publishing. The fact that there has to be a part three and its not available is behoovable. If I knew that before I gave book two a chance I wouldn't have read it. I will not be seeking out the last one. People made so many dumb mistakes with their choices it was ridiculous. It is a book you can read to pass time.

So I feel like book 2 is being dragged out unnecessarily and also I can't understand why they are fearful of NAthaniel, I feel like all justin needed to tell her was her gift or everyone could have and she could project her want to Nathaniel, even with opening the door or leaving. The fear doesn't seem realistic. All in all it's ok, love 1 can't wait for book 3 to see how this ends.

CHAPTER 42 Turn Every Stone

~Kade~

We had approximately six books lying scattered on the desk, and two more with mounds of paper on the round table by the chairs. Everyone was sifting through them, looking for any and all information there was about Emberclaws and their heritage. Where did they come from? When was the first one born? Why was he born? How did this species ever come to exist in a world with a perfect balance between creatures and humans?

We needed everything and more, and we needed to learn about them—the truth, not just the stories we’d been told.

Here, Anna said and ripped out a piece of paper from the huge pile.

It says, um, it’s about a city in the states where two Emberclaws were born into smaller packs. She laid it on the pile of gathered information and continued sifting through the rest.

This book writes about the origin of the Emberclaws, but it’s from the 1900s, so it can't be the beginning, Mason said and read through the pages.

This one says the same thing, and it’s from 1836, Cara said, and then my mother looked up at us with another book in her hands.

This one is writing about the origins as well, and it’s from 1648. How far back does this go? Was this not something newer? Had they always existed, and we just didn't know about it? The questions were piling up along with the information, but we continued rummaging through everything we had. My father was on the phone with another Alpha to see if they had any additional information. Thank you, Thomas. I appreciate it. He hung up and made a check mark next to Thomas’s name on a sheet of paper.

He’ll send over what he has. He’s the only one so far that has any papers or books referencing the Emberclaws.

How could there not be more information about a species this evolved? Anna asked with a hint of worry.

Because of fear. They are strong, much stronger than we probably know, and when they disappeared, people probably figured it was best to bury that part of history.

But you can’t, you can't bury history. History is manifested all around us, and one way or another, it will be relieved, especially if we don't have information that will prepare us for it. How are we supposed to learn when we don't know what we’re learning about? She was clearly upset, and with all reason. Her blonde hair was sticking out in the bun on the top of her head and the dark rings I had noticed around her eyes these past few days were growing deeper and darker.

I wanted Anna to get some rest, but I knew that trying to pry her away from this was futile.

We’ll continue looking, My father said and looked at her. Anna nodded her head and went back to the papers. She started highlighting points of information and drawing circles around paragraphs that were related to our cause.

Everyone was deeply invested in the work we had in front of us. We each had our coffee cups refilled continuously throughout the day, and we didn't utter many words to each other unless we had found something of importance.

Anna blew out a deep breath, and my brother was sitting with his cheek pressed into his hand as he slowly sifted through the papers and turned each page. Cara read every book she found, and my father was still calling around.

My mother was outside talking to the pack members and making sure that everyone was alright on the outside.

I couldn't stop looking, even if I hadn't slept for days, I couldn't stop. Nothing was more important than finding Layla and bringing her home. Sleeping without her or even existing in this house…

without her, each day was becoming harder. The one thing that made everything that much harder was the fact that Danielle was still here, and she had snaked her way back into the peoples hearts. Of course, she had almost succeeded with me too, but I knew now that Layla was the one I wanted. I just hope I didn't realize it too late.

I needed to do something about Danielle. Part of me wanted to just send her on her way and have her leave the pack tonight, but another part, the logical part, knew that she could have information. I had a hard time believing that she left here and never crossed paths with another Emberclaw or perhaps even the pack. Though I doubted she’d tell me, if there was information to tell, I'd find a way to make her do so.

The phone rang, I was snapped out of the fog I was in. I looked over and sighed as I got up from the couch and walked over to the desk.

Hello? As soon as he started talking everyone's heads flew up, and they looked at me. Anna looked the most shocked and disgusted, but everyone was confused.

Alpha Sebastian, he had an authority to his voice that I didn't hear when I was visiting them, which made me believe that his father was back.

That’s the only reason I could come up with as to how his confidence suddenly flourished. Sebastian was a scared little boy, nothing like an Alpha in any way, but he was cocky and dramatic and too used to getting his way. He mentioned his father and how he had returned. His father was apparently eager to meet me; I had no idea why, and I certainly had no intention of meeting anyone from that pack. They had an agenda, and remembering Sebastian's last phone call about Layla, I could only assume that this was something related to her as well.

After a row of pleasantries, he finally got to the point of his call.

’I thought I'd come and visit with my father. We’ll talk about Layla and this whole Emberclaw predicament’

No thanks, I was about to hang up when his voice rang out in desperation.

’I have information!’

Slowly lifting my hand up again, I looked at everyones suspicious gazes.

What?

’It’s about the Layla’s whereabouts and the Emberclaw pack. You want her back, don't you? I can help.’ someone cleared their throat in the background.

’My father can also help. he’s the one with the information, and he’ll come with me when we visit’ he sounded like a child who needed his father’s supervision. How the fuck was he an Alpha? Or rather, how was their pack still standing?

Had it been of value to me, I would've overtaken it years ago, but I never had a reason, nor do I have one now either. All I wanted was my mate, and I knew that Sebastian had his eyes on her as well. How much of an idiot does one have to be to let a girl like her get away?

’Are you really asking that?’ My wolf snarled. You’re right, I’m as much of an idiot as he is. ’Maybe not as much, but you’re definitely up there’

Tell me what information you have. I said and leaned forward on the desk, with my fingers folding over a piece of paper that I wrinkled under my grip as he answered.

’I’ll tell you when we get there. See you soon, Alpha Kade’

CHAPTER 43 Dangerous Desires

~Layla’s POV~

Walking through the woods was different now. The longer I stayed here, the more the trees started to blend into the environment, and the lack of sun didn't bother me. It was barely noticeable how only patches lit up from sunlight during the day, and how a pitch-black darkness fell over us at night. The houses started feeling like they had been there all along, and the built-in paths felt like a town walk past the stores. Everything that was initially odd and curious was suddenly normal and quite town-like.

It felt like a pack, like the one I was from, and the fact that we were hidden deep within the woods somehow went right over my head.

’Layla, wake up’

My eyes flew open, and I stared up at the ceiling in my bedroom. There were no curtains to the window, yet not a single hint of light showed itself anywhere.

What’s wrong?

’The danger, it’s still here and it’s growing’

I sat up and gulped. The darkness wasn't normally scary, I could roam around the house in the middle of the night without as much as a flinch. But Clara’s warning rang loudly in my head, and the tremble of fear in her voice made it all more real.

Is the danger in the pack?

’I don't know’

You need to give me something here, Clara. Is it in the pack? Is it outside the pack? Is it a threat?

’I don't know, but something is changing. A threat is near and it’s growing stronger and faster than before’

So it wasn't Kade?

’I don't think so. I think we’re in it. The danger must be here; it’s the only answer.’

Falling back asleep was hard after my conversation with Clara, and I slept well into the next day. Someone knocked on my door, and I groaned as I turned in the bed. I resisted getting up; my eyes wouldn't open and my head had never felt so heavy before. My limbs felt sore, and my body needed the rest. Whatever the person wanted would have to wait. Unfortunately, it appeared that the choice wasn't my own to make. Something was tossed down on the bed, and I squinted with one eye and saw Justin standing by the stairs.

Get up, we have practice. I turned around and faced the wall. No, thank you.

He chuckled, and the bed dipped under his weight as he sat down.

I didn't say it was an option. He was looking at me with that cheeky smile, and his dimple made his eyes sparkle.

It was odd how one dimple could make a whole face so cute and innocent. I remember meeting him at the bar before; he didn't look cute or cheeky, he seemed dangerous and like a man on a mission, which technically he was.

Come on, I'll make you coffee so it’s ready when you get down. You have fifteen minutes! He shouted from the stairs.

Is it him?

’I can’t say for certain’

We walked out of the house, and I had my coffee in a to-go cup. Everyone was smiling and waving at us as they walked by, and I just felt like a zombie walking through the town with my shoulders slumped and my head still half-asleep.

Down here, we walked down to the water, and there he waited.

Good morning. Nathaniel said, sounding cheery. Dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans, he stood tall and waited for us. Those who were sitting by the water or stepping down to enjoy the sun all bowed their heads as they passed him.

good morning. A husky laugh shook his shoulders, and he smiled.

Not a morning person, are you? Shaking my head, I took a big gulp of coffee. Before I could even lower my hand the cup was carefully taken from my hand, and Justin stepped back. Taking a woman's coffee in the morning was just a whole other form of cruelty.

Here. Nathaniel walked up to me and handed me a flower.

The pink petals were beautiful, and the yellow center looked like the sun. I watched him warily and turned my head an inch to see Justin. Justin subtly nodded his head, and I grabbed the flower, slowly reaching out my fingers and grabbing the thin stem.

Within seconds, my head was tossed back and I disappeared from the moment.

Nathaniel was standing in a room, not a room I had been in, but it had to have been in his house.

He was looking right at me; this felt just like when I reviewed the message from Justin.

Layla, this is a message, one you’ve received before, but this time I want to tell you how it’s done because this is what you will learn today. We have the power to implement memories in any earthly object. A flower, a tree, a rock and even a necklace. By doing this, we have the ability to preserve a memory forever. It never has to be forgotten or wither away; it stays with us and our descendants for eternity. You will start by placing a memory onto a flower because anything nature made is easier. Nature demands balance, and so that is where our powers thrive the most and flow the easiest. So I hope you’re ready because this class will be challenging, it will hurt, and it will bring you a sense of a torn soul, but don't fear because beyond those feelings lie unbelievable power and vitality. It’s time to open your eyes now; I'll see you in a second. He winked before stepping back, and I was pulled into the present again.

Nathaniel looked at Justin and bowed his head.

You said I should stay this time, Justin said but seemed to have realized his mistake in speaking out of place. Nathianel sure kept tight reins on his people; that much was evident. He bowed his head and threw me a quick glance before walking away.

Nathaniel reached out his hand. I hesitantly grabbed it and saw it disappearing as he circled his fingers around it and led me down to the stream.

We sat down on a rock, so close together that his leg brushed up against mine. His hair bounced on his head from the easy wind, and he looked out over the water.

Are you ready? I nodded my head and picked a flower that was growing between the rocks. I circled my fingers around the stem and started focusing on it as I awaited instructions, but I jumped when he placed his hands over mine. He held tightly, inertwining his finger with my own and looked at me with a soft smile. His facial features shifted from a domineering authority to a graceful kindness.

I’ll help you, his voice came out in a soft whisper with a dark undertone, but not a mean one; rather it was a dominant one.

I closed my eyes and did as he told me to.

CHAPTER 44. She’s Ready!

Come on, again! I stumbled back, my hands rested on my knees as I bent over and panted. My hair fell in front of my face and sweat dripped down my body. I had to kick my shoes off and remove my over shirt when it got to warm and Nathaniel stood only in his jeans with the sun gleaming down on us. Pearls of sweat formed on his chest and fell down, disappearing into the waistband of his pants.

I brushed my hair back and stood up straight, staring tiredly at Nathaniel who continued the practice.

One more time! He shouted as though I couldn't hear him perfectly fine.

My heart was beating quickly and my legs were turning to jelly beneath me.

Fine, i grunted and looked at him. My core clenched and an uneasy feeling filled me from top to toe.

My stomach turned and it felt like I was about to throw up. Staring into Nathaniels eyes I tried breaking past the walls he put up, the same ones that Kade had that kept me from seeing his memories.

Come on.

I’m trying.

Try harder! I stepped closer and lifted my hand, I touched my fingers against his cheek and stared deeply into his eyes as his body tensed beneath my touch. His guards went down and he was left exposed.

Flourishing flowers and a stone in hand he walked down a path that led to the stream. He placed the rock by the water, waving it off as it sunk beneath the surface. His little hand touched against the stones and he sat down with his toddler feet splashing in the water.

Son, it’s important you learn how to lead our people. Your time is nearing faster than you think. An older man came and sat next to him. It couldn't be his father, could it?

He was much older, with greying hair and lines along his arms. Scars that were deep sat on
