I had spent a lot of time in the navy. I loved being out at sea. There was something peaceful and soothing about it even though it was hard work. Probably the toughest job I ever had but the most rewarding. We had a lot of good times and a few scary ones as well. What I loved the most about being out at sea was the detachment from society. Once the ship pulls away from the pier and heads out through the breakwater nothing else matters except the people you are with who becomes your family. A very close family at that. Even after all these years we still keep in touch.

This story was written for the crew I served with on the U.S.S. John A. Moore. This is not the original version of the story that was published in the Horror Zine’s
