A Bond Never Broken - Elysium Irie

    Chapter 1 – Morning Rush

Beep. Beep. Beep. The piercing sound of the alarm clock filled Andromeda's room.

Andromeda! Get up! Turn that alarm off and come down for breakfast! shouted her mother, frustration evident in her voice. Andromeda groggily opened her eyes, realizing it was finally morning. Glancing at her phone, she saw it was 6:04 AM. Ugh, she had only fallen asleep a few hours ago. She hit the snooze button and flopped back onto the bed.

As she started to drift off again, the bedroom door creaked open. You know she's going to yell again, right? You might as well get up before she wakes up everyone in the pack house, remarked her younger sister Artemis. Andromeda knew Artemis was right. Their mother was usually impatient, but today she would be especially annoying. It was a significant day, after all. It’s now 6:15 AM and she’s late.

Artemis, go tell Mom I'm up. I need to shower first, Andromeda instructed. Artemis smirked and teased, You? Shower? In the morning? What's wrong with you? She put her finger to her chin, pretending to ponder, then exclaimed with mock surprise, Oh, I know! You want to look pretty for a certain someone, possibly a prince, who's coming home today.

Artemis, get out! Go tell Mom I'll be down in a few minutes! Andromeda yelled, tossing her pillow at her annoying sister. Little sisters could be so exasperating!

Okay, okay! I'm going! Artemis replied, quickly retreating. Don't forget to brush your teeth. Your smelly breath could wake the dead. She was lucky she ran away after that comment; otherwise, she might have been hit with a lamp. As Andromeda had said, little sisters could be incredibly bothersome.

After closing and locking her bedroom door, Andromeda dashed to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready. She didn't usually wear much makeup to school, but today she felt she needed it. The bags under her eyes were prominent. Usually, her emerald green eyes sparkled but now, they were dull as evidence of her lack of sleep. Today was a momentous day, as a certain someone was returning home.

Andromeda had been counting down the days since he left—three years, six months, and fifteen days ago. He was the future Alpha King of Calir, and the entire kingdom was eagerly anticipating his arrival.

Fortunately, she had already chosen her outfit for the day, which was why she had stayed up so late. She had been indecisive about what to wear. She didn't want to stand out too much or look too casual, but she also wanted to look her best. After all, it wasn't every day that the guy she had had a crush on since she was five years old returned home, especially considering he was a prince and heir to the throne.

Now, looking at the outfit she had chosen, she began to have second thoughts. Jeans or leggings? Dress or skirt? It had been so long since she had seen him that she wasn't even sure if he would care about her appearance. He probably wouldn't even recognize her. Sighing, she wondered what she was doing.

Andromeda! Rachel is here! her mother's voice echoed through the house. Glancing at the clock, Andromeda realized it was already 7:02 a.m. Oh no! Hurriedly, she grabbed a pair of jeans, her sneakers, and a white long-sleeve shirt from her closet. She texted Rachel, informing her that she would be a few minutes late. Putting her long chestnut hair in a ponytail, she double-checked her appearance and sighed. It will have to do. Grabbing her hoodie, purse, and backpack, she rushed out of her room, down the stairs, and accidentally collided with Faith, one of the omegas in the pack house.

Miss Andromeda! Oh, my goddess! I'm so sorry! exclaimed Faith as both tumbled to the ground. I didn't see you coming. I apologize.

Please don't apologize, Faith. It was my fault. I was rushing and not watching where I was going, and I ran right into you. I'm sorry I made you drop the laundry you were carrying, Andromeda replied, feeling guilty.

It's not a problem, miss. I'll just refold it all. I hope you have a good day at school. Today is going to be a great day. The prince is returning today. What a glorious day for our kingdom, Faith said with a warm smile.

Yes, Faith, it's going to be a great day, Andromeda smiled back as she helped Faith to her feet and handed her the fallen laundry. She waved goodbye and continued downstairs.

The kitchen in their pack house was always bustling with activity. Cooks prepared meals, guards snacked, and pack house members came and went. Omegas carried full dishes of food to the dining room, returning with empty plates. Amidst it all, Andromeda's mother, Luna Elise Cirillo, stood as the conductor of this lively orchestra. They couldn't imagine what they would do without her. However, today, when Andromeda entered the kitchen, her mother was nowhere to be found. She was in the dining room with her father, sister, and his Beta.

It was an extraordinary day. Entering the dining room, Andromeda heard a collective sigh. Rolling her eyes, she took her seat. It was time for the expected conversation.

Andromeda, why are you always so late for breakfast? I heard that alarm go off an hour ago. Now you're going to be late for school, gasped her mother, sitting abruptly in her chair.

Elise, relax. She won't be late. Rachel is here, and they'll get to school on time, reassured her father, patting her hand.

That's not the point, Jaron. Today is a special day. Peter and Michael are finally coming home from Alpha School, and everyone needs to have their energy, so we can celebrate their return later this evening. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and eating a piece of toast won't suffice, her mother insisted, eyeing Andromeda, who was biting into the toast in her hand. When she looked up, she noticed everyone staring at her.

Mom, I'm not that hungry, but I have to go. I'll get something on the way if I have to, Andromeda replied, grabbing an apple.

Andromeda don't forget to come home right after school. Peter and Michael should be home by then. It would be good for you to spend some quality time with your brothers. They've been gone for a long time, her mother reminded her.

Why do I need to spend time with my brothers? We just saw them a few months ago. It's not like they're going to stay indoors anyway. They'll want to meet up with their friends, not spend time with me, Andromeda protested.

    Andromeda...

    Mom...

Sensing the escalating tension between her mother and Andromeda, her father swiftly intervened. Elise, dear, the boys will probably be tired from their trip. There's plenty of time for the four of them to be together and bond. They're teenagers, and they don't want to be forced to spend time together. It'll happen. Just relax. he pacified. Besides, I think Andromeda would rather spend time with a certain prince than her brothers, he added with a wink and a smile. Andromeda looked at her father wide-eyed, and he chuckled.

Andromeda, do you have a thing for the prince? inquired her father's Beta, Vyse. He glanced at her father, wiggling his eyebrows, and continued, I heard he doesn't have a mate yet.

Andromeda has a crush on him. She kisses the picture she has of him in her room all the time, Artemis blurted out, prompting both Andromeda and her mother to yell, Artemis!

Young lady, you need to be respectful and not go around sharing other people's business. Go get ready for school, scolded her mother. Seeing that Andromeda's face was as red as a beet, her father quickly stood up and gave her a comforting hug.

It's okay, Andi. We all have crushes. I still have a crush on your mom, and we've been married for 28 years, he admitted, causing her mother to blush. Walking over to her, he pulled her up and settled in a chair with her on his lap. Kissing his mark on her neck, he made her giggle, and she wrapped her arms around him.

I should leave now, Vyse said, rising from his seat. Alpha, I'll see you on the training grounds when you're ready. Andromeda, have a good day at school. Let me know if that son of mine gets into any trouble.

Sure, no problem, Andromeda replied, stifling a laugh.

Following Vyse out of the dining room, she glanced back at her parents and smiled. One day, she wanted a love as strong as theirs. Their mate bond remained as robust as ever, even after all these years. It was fortunate that the pack house rooms were soundproof, and she had to go to school.

The thought of what they were about to do grossed her out.

Feeling relieved that she had made her escape, Andromeda suddenly realized that today was the day she would see Alexander Lykiaos again. She had waited so long to see him again. Today he and her brothers were returning to Calir from Alpha School.

They had known each other since childhood. Their connection was unbreakable, especially since the appearance of a birthmark of his marking appeared on her left shoulder when she was eight, symbolizing they were fated mates. But today, she didn't want to think about being mates. She just wanted to spend time with her childhood friend and hoped that he still liked her for who she was. She didn't want to ruin a good thing by confessing her feelings to him. Everything had to go right today.

Walking toward Rachel's car, she took a deep breath and silently prayed to the moon goddess for a good day. It was time to go and see her prince.

    Chapter 2 – Calir’s Most Trusted Ally

    (Background)

Nestled amidst the picturesque hills of the north, the New Moon Pack stands as a proud and revered pack within the wolf realm. As the home pack of the esteemed Cirillo family, it holds a special place in the hearts of its members and the wolf community at large.

The territory of the New Moon Pack spans a vast land of natural beauty. Rolling hills, adorned with lush vegetation and ancient trees, created a stunning backdrop for the pack's daily lives. Streams meander through the land and provide pack members with a sense of serenity and renewal.

Within the New Moon Pack, strong bonds of kinship and camaraderie flourish. The pack members regard each other as extended family, bound by loyalty, trust, and a shared connection to their Alpha lineage. Their unity has always been a source of strength, getting them through challenges they have faced and celebrating the victories that came their way.

As the most favored pack of the Alpha King, the New Moon Pack enjoys a heightened level of protection and support. As the most trusted ally, the kingdom of Calir stands as a steadfast guardian, ensuring the safety and well-being of its cherished pack. This favor instills a sense of pride and responsibility among the New Moon Pack members, who strive to honor their connection to the Alpha King, the royal family, and the kingdom. Whenever Calir calls, the New Moon pack is first in line to provide their service.

The New Moon Pack thrives under the watchful eye of its leaders, Alpha Jaron Cirillo and Luna Elise Cirillo. The Cirillo family has led the pack for centuries. Almost as long as the trees that surround them, have lived. Pack members adore Alpha Jaron, Luna Elise and their children, Andromeda, the twins, Peter and Michael, and Artemis. Their wise guidance and fair governance foster an environment of prosperity and harmony within the pack. They nurtured a sense of community, where every member's voice was valued, and their strengths celebrated.

Situated on the border of the kingdom of Calir, the New Moon Pack holds a crucial role in safeguarding the realm. Their position as protectors of the northern border demands vigilance and strength, as they stand as the first line of defense against external threats. The pack embraces this responsibility, understanding the significance of their role in preserving the safety and security of their kingdom. Young wolf cubs are raised to understand their importance to Calir and aspire to continue the tradition of protecting their pack, their king, and the realm.

No one feels more loyalty to the kingdom than the Cirillo family. Alpha King Martin Lykiaos and Alpha Jaron Cirillo crossed paths during their time at Alpha School, an esteemed institution where young alphas from various packs gathered to learn and develop their leadership skills. The meeting between Martin and Jaron would prove to be a turning point in both of their lives, forging a lifelong friendship and a powerful alliance between their respective packs. Their friendship continued to grow as they spent countless hours discussing pack dynamics, strategies, and their aspirations for the realm. Martin was drawn to Jaron's unwavering loyalty to his pack and his strong sense of justice, while Jaron admired Martin's wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his pack's well-being.

Over time, Martin and Jaron realized the potential for their packs to thrive through a strategic alliance. They recognized the complementary strengths and resources each pack possessed, and together, they envisioned a future where their packs could support and protect each other, fostering a stronger kingdom. As soon as Martin ascended to the throne, the alliance treaty was put in place.

King Martin and Alpha Jaron’s friendship continued to flourish over the years and extended to each other’s family. Jaron stood by his friend when he married Malia, Princess of the Enchanted Grove and Martin returned the favor when Jaron found his fated mate, Elise, performing the joining ceremony with the New Moon elders. Jaron and Elise were the first visitors to meet the future Alpha King, Alexander when he was born. Elise held him in her arms before Martin did, causing a certain Alpha King to pout for the first time. Elise made it up to him eight years later when she went into premature labor with her youngest child, Artemis, while dancing with him at the annual King’s Ball. After giving birth on the palace ballroom floor, it was Martin who raced baby Artemis, with Malia in tow, to the royal doctor while Jaron tended to Elise. It was a royal ball that no one ever forgot.

Growing up together, the royal children and the Cirillo siblings were inseparable. They lived for adventure and discovery. Often getting into pretend battles with vampires and rogues, training with older wolves in combat, hiding from the royal nanny Amelia, and stealing freshly baked cookies and pies from the palace kitchen. From sleepovers to school, it was uncommon to see one without the other.

As they got into their teenage years, the relationships between the children started to change. Alexander, being the oldest and next in line for the throne, started spending more time with his father and in his studies. When he wasn’t studying, he was on the training grounds with other warriors learning about defense and building his strength. Peter and Michael, both five years younger than him, were in awe of their friend and wanted to do everything he did. So, they trained hard as well. Hector, always feeling like an outcast, was often seen reading books, daydreaming under trees, and playing with forest animals while his brother and his friends trained. Andromeda would try her hardest to train with the boys and even though she was older than them, she was smaller. Her brother Peter would tease her until she would leave.

Instead of going home, she would always sit on the side of the field and watch them train. Specifically, watch Alexander train. At first, it was interesting to watch the warriors spar with one another. Andromeda liked to watch their techniques and transform into their wolves. She wasn’t scared when the wolves hurt each other or there was blood on the ground. She understood they were just training. No one was going to die. It was just a part of training. She would watch all the matches, no one in particular. That was until the day that Alexander rode a dragon. That’s when everything changed.

Chapter 3 – The Wyvern Dragon

    (Andromeda’s Memory)

It was a bright and sunny day. Andromeda, her brothers, and her father, Alpha Jaron, as well as Beta Vyse, were at the palace training grounds. It was the day of the Royal Navy and the Royal Army's most notable traditions. This event, known as the Battle of the Forces, is an annual competition that serves as a friendly rivalry to determine which branch of the military is superior. The competition not only fosters camaraderie and healthy competition among the troops but also showcases the kingdom's military prowess to the rest of the realm. It was a time-honored event and usually brought out crowds from across the kingdom to watch hundreds of their finest soldiers battle to see which group was better.

Jaron stood on the sidelines with the king, his beta Vyse, Beta Garrick, Admiral Cad Merine, leader of the Royal Navy, and Admiral Victor Thornwood, leader of the Royal Army. In the middle of the field was Alexander, standing tall and proud with a glint in his eye. He was getting ready for the grand finale that would determine which side won.

Andromeda, her brothers, and Princess Faye were sitting in the royal box waiting for the final event to start. The competition was fierce with both sides putting up their best fight. Suddenly, Andromeda felt a tug on her sleeve. She looked down to see a little wolf pup with bright green eyes and a white muzzle, staring up at her. It was the Alpha King's pet, Pappy.

Andromeda, the Alpha King is calling for you, Pappy said with a tiny yip. Even though she hadn’t gotten her wolf yet, she could still understand what the little pup was saying. Andromeda looked around and saw her father and Beta Vyse talking with the alpha King and the Admirals. She made her way over and saw that the Alpha King was pointing up to the sky. She glanced up and saw a hovering shadow that was getting bigger by the second. As it descended, she saw that it was a giant Wyvern dragon.

That's a legendary Wyvern, said Alpha King Martin. It's the most dangerous creature in our realm, and I would like you to ride it. As the future Alpha for the New Moon pack, you should be able to easily command it. He said with a smile.

Andromeda felt a wave of dread come over her. How was she supposed to ride a dragon? That was something that only Alpha wolves could do, and she was far from that! Besides, she was eight!

Suddenly, twelve-year-old Prince Alexander stepped forward and said, I will ride the Wyvern, causing everyone in the group to break into shocked murmurs.

Wyvern dragons are from Drakonheim, nestled deep within the realm of Shadowsong. To have one in Calir, let alone on the day of the Battle of the Forces, was unheard of. Legends speak of the bond that can be formed between a select few individuals and Wyvern Dragons, where trust is earned through acts of bravery and respect for their realm. These chosen few, known as Dragon Riders, are said to possess a unique connection with the dragons, allowing them to mount and ride these majestic creatures, harnessing their power and forming an unbreakable bond.

The Wyvern landed in the middle of the training grounds and proceeded to roar, making everyone in the stands scream with fright. It was at least 20 feet long from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail. Its scales and large leathery wings were dark with colors ranging from obsidian to deep amethyst. Allowing the creature to blend easily in the shadowy terrain of its realm. Its eyes glowed like embers as it stared cautiously at Alexander as he moved towards it.

With his hand raised in front of him, Alexander slowly approached while the spectators watched with fear. Andromeda, hiding in the arms of her father, felt her heart start to race and ache in pain at the sight. Not sure what she was feeling, she tugged on her father’s jacket.

Daddy, I’m scared. She whispered with tears in her eyes. Please do something. I don’t want Alexander to get hurt. Please, Daddy, talk to the king. Please tell him to stop. Please!

Jaron looked at her daughter and the king. Looking back at his daughter, he knelt, so he was face to face with her.

Cupping her face in his hands he said, Alexander is a strong lad. He can do this. Trust in him. Don’t let the fear consume you. He needs you to be strong. He needs to see the strength in you. He is a brave child and so are you. Her father leaned in and whispered in her ear, This is his test. Have faith in him dear.

He stood back up and wiped her face. She took in a breath and stood in front of her father again, determined to stand strong for Alexander should he need her. Glancing sideways to look at Alpha King Martin, she saw him looking back at her with a smile. He gave her a gentle nod and a wink before returning to watch his eldest son. Turning back around, Andromeda watched Alexander as he continued approaching the dragon.

Sensing a bit of fear, the Wyvern dragon smirked, and smoke started to come out of its nostrils. Alexander stopped and turned slightly to look at the royal spectator box. He looked at his father who nodded for him to go on. He scanned the rest of the audience before returning his eyes to the box where his gaze fell on Andromeda. Smiling at her, he mouthed It will be OK. Do not worry.

At that moment, Andromeda’s heart started to ache, and she felt an overwhelming burning sensation inside her chest and on her cheeks.

Turning back around, Alexander started to walk again towards the dragon.

‘I’m not going to hurt you. You are safe here. No one will hurt you. I just want to take a ride with you. Please do not make me into burnt toast.’ He thought to himself. What happened next surprised him.

‘Do you now, young prince?’ Said the dragon through a mind link. ‘Do you think I would let you just get on, and we would go for a joyride? How do I know you aren’t lying? You could be trying to trap me and keep me here. The thought of making you into burnt toast, as you say, does sound tempting.’

‘Wait, you can hear me?’, as he stopped short.

‘Yes, and you can hear me too. This is most interesting. Most of the creatures I meet don’t understand me. Then again, I don’t normally converse with my meal. You must be special. Who and what are you?’

‘My name is Alexander, son of Alpha King Martin Lykiaos and Queen Malia. I am the future Alpha King. I am a Lycan and the future protector of this realm. No harm will come to you, in any way and I will strike down anyone who tries.’

‘You are Martin’s son? Well, that is very interesting as I have business with your father. My name is Aurelia, and I am also a protector of my realm. I can sense goodness in you Lycan. I will take you for that ride.’

With a big smile on his face, Alexander sighed in relief and proceeded to mount Aurelia’s back.

‘Hold on young prince!’ Aurelia mindlinked him.

Flapping her wings, she roared to the crowd and slowly started to ascend in the sky. The crowd burst into cheers, hugging each other, as they watched their prince and the dragon climb higher and higher into the afternoon sky.

Alpha King Martin, with a huge grin on his face, turned to everyone and exclaimed, Look at my son! That is your future king right there!.

Everyone in the royal spectator box was clapping and cheering Alexander on as he soared in the sky with Aurelia. Andromeda stared at the sky and watched in awe as Alexander and Aurelia darted in and out of the clouds.

After a few more minutes, Aurelia returned Alexander to the palace training grounds and lowered her head, so he could safely dismount. After he got on the ground, Alexander turned to Aurelia and bowed.

Surprised, Aurelia's mind linked him and said ‘Young prince, get up. You shouldn’t bow to me. I am not royalty. You shouldn’t bow to anyone but your parents.’

He stood back up and responded. ‘I bow to your magnificence Aurelia. Wyvern dragons are to be revered, and I am humbled that you allowed me the opportunity to fly above the clouds with you. You gave me a chance to see my kingdom, in all its glory. It was the most beautiful sight to see. I will never forget this day. Ever. The kingdom of Calir and the Shadowsong realm do not get along. If not in my father’s time, I vow to make sure our kingdoms will unite. Thank you for the pleasure of meeting you.’

‘I look forward to that day young prince. The pleasure of meeting you is all mine. We will meet again one day. Until then, stay true Dragon Rider’ she mindlinked him. Aurelia stood up on her back legs, proceeded to bow to the prince, and took off back into the sky.

As Alexander made his way back towards the royal spectator box, the crowds continued to cheer their prince. With a smile on his face, Alpha King Martin came down to the grounds to congratulate him. Alongside his beta and the admirals, Alpha King Martin hugged his son, patted him on the back, and exclaimed, My people, let us congratulate my son Prince Alexander! Your future Alpha King! Everyone roared with whistles and cheers.

Andromeda rushed to him and jumped in his arms for a big hug. Smiling at her, he let her go and said, I told you I was going to be OK and not to worry.

He pinched her cheeks and ran to his friends to celebrate. Andromeda stood there, a huge smile on her face, with her hand on her cheek where he pinched her.

Later that night, after Andromeda got ready for bed, her mom was tucking her in when she noticed something on her shoulder. it was a small mark on her shoulder that looked like a crown.

Andromeda, Luna Elise said, where did this mark come from?

    What mark mom?

This one on your shoulder. I’ve never seen it before. Do you know how you got it?

Andromeda jumped out of bed and went to her vanity mirror and looked at the mark. Just as her mom said, there was a small mark on her shoulder with the shape of a crown. Touching it, she felt a little zing run through her body. She jumped and her mom said, What happened? Why did you jump?

I don’t know. I touched it and felt something go through my body. I don’t know where it came from Mom.

OK dear, we will get to the bottom of it. I’ll ask the pack healer to come see it in the morning. Don’t touch it.

Andromeda’s mom tucked her back into bed and kissed her on the forehead. Turning off her light, she closed the door and made her way back to the room she shared with her Alpha.

Back in Andromeda’s room, she tried to think of how she got the mark, but nothing was coming to mind. She tried not to touch it, but she liked how it made her feel. When she touched it, it made her feel warm and fuzzy. Like she was wrapped in a warm blanket straight out of the dryer. She remembered some bugs flying around the training grounds and thought maybe one of them bit her.

Making her way to her parent’s room, she was just about to knock when she heard her mother’s voice.

No, my alpha, I’m telling you what I saw. Andromeda has the mark. She has the mark of the king.

How do you know it's the mark of the king? Maybe she got stung by something? Jaron said, trying to calm his Luna down.

Andromeda could hear her mother pacing the room. Since she doesn’t have her wolf yet, her hearing is that of a normal human, so she has to keep her ear to the door.

Nothing will leave a bite mark like that. It looks like a crown, Jaron. A crown! How many bugs do you know to leave a mark of a crown when they sting? No, I know what it is. It is the mark of the king and not just any king but one. I think Andromeda and Alexander are fated mates.

Andromeda had to cover her mouth to stifle a scream. Fated mates?! With Alexander?! Running back to her room, she closed the door and jumped back in bed. Slowly a smile crept onto her face as she thought about what her mom said. She could be fated mates with Alexander. She stared at the moon through her window and prayed to the moon goddess.

Please, moon goddess. Please make what my mom said true. Please let Alexander and I be mates.

With a smile on her face, Andromeda fell asleep.

    Chapter 4 – Calir City

    (Present Day)

Hello?... Calling Andromeda Rachel said while nudging her, as they drove through the hills of the New Moon pack towards the Kingdom.

Sorry Rach. I wasn’t paying attention. What did you say?

You’ve been zoned out since getting in the car. Thinking too much about Alexander, I guess. Hope you brought a change of panties with you. She giggled.

Rachel Kerensa. Andromeda’s best friend and the only person who knew how much she really liked Alexander. She and Rachel became fast friends about three years ago, after meeting at Calir Prep, when she moved from another realm to be with her father. Her family are wolves as well, but they are from noble blood. Her father Xavier is the adviser to Alpha King Martin, so she knows all about the Lykiaos kids but never had the chance to meet Alexander. From everything, she heard about him from Andromeda, she had to admit she was excited to see him in person as well.

Rach, what if he doesn’t remember me? He’s been gone for so long. I have dreamed about this day and now that it’s here, I’m scared.

Come on Andi, of course, he’s going to remember you. You were all the best of friends! It’s not like he’s been gone for a decade or something. It’s only been three years. Didn’t you stay in touch?

In the beginning we did. We used to text each other all the time. We sent emails to each other but that lasted a few months. Slowly he stopped responding to me. I tried calling and kept texting but, no response. I would try to ask my brothers about him when they came home on break from Alpha School but, of course, they wouldn’t tell me anything. Peter would just tease me, and Michael would stay quiet. It was just weird. Like I did something to upset him. I eventually stopped asking. When my brothers came home a few months ago for their last break before graduation, I didn’t mention his name. I barely talked to them.

Your brothers are jerks if you ask me.

Peter is but Michael isn’t. He’s just the quiet twin. Peter doesn’t have an ounce of respect in his body for me, even though I’m the oldest. He always looks at me like I’m a weakling. Andromeda said while looking out the window at the passing trees.

Peter is hot, but he has a nasty attitude, which is a total turn-off. But I don’t have to like him to get down with him. Rachel said as she turned to her and winked.

Andromeda rolled her eyes and said, Ugh please don’t try to get with my brother. That’s gross.

It’s gross to you because he is your brother. But everyone needs a little snacky snack once in a while. She giggled.

You are impossible. If you have to get with one of them, go for Michael. He will treat you better.

Yeah, but which one is better in bed? Might have to take both for a test drive. Double the fun! She exclaimed.

Andromeda shook her head and just laughed. Looking back out the window, she saw the Calir City coming into sight. Her heart started to beat a little faster.

The kingdom of Calir itself was beautiful but its capital was magnificent. The capital city, known simply as Calir City, stands as a vibrant and bustling center of power and culture within the werewolf realm. Nestled in the heart of the kingdom, the city stretches across a vast expanse of land, radiating an air of majesty and regality.

As one approaches the city, the towering spires of the Alpha Palace dominate the skyline, their gleaming white walls and grand architecture a testament to the authority and magnificence of the Alpha Kings who have ruled the realm. The palace serves as the central hub of governance, where decisions are made, and the fate of the kingdom is shaped.

The streets of Calir City are the fabric of life and activity, lined with bustling marketplaces, elegant shops, and enchanting boutiques. Werewolves and visitors from far and wide fill the streets, their presence adding a vibrant energy to the cityscape that cannot be ignored.

The scent of freshly baked goods and the lively sounds of merchants hawking their goods fill the air. Parks and gardens are scattered throughout the city, at the request of Queen Malia, providing serene oases where citizens can retreat from the bustling urban environment. These lush green spaces, adorned with colorful flowers and tranquil ponds, mimic the landscape of the Enchanted Grove and offer a chance to connect with nature and find solace amidst the chaos.

Calir City boasts an abundance of architectural wonders, blending classic werewolf aesthetics with contemporary design. The structures showcase intricate carvings, adorned with symbolic motifs that pay homage to the werewolf heritage and their deep connection to nature. The city's buildings are often crowned with majestic banners bearing the emblem of the Lykiaos pack, a proud symbol of the ruling family's lineage.

At the heart of the city lies the Great Hall, a grand gathering place where important events, celebrations, and council meetings are held. It is here, among the shimmering chandeliers and intricate tapestries, that the rich history and legends of the werewolf realm reside. The people of Calir City are known for their warmth, hospitality, and loyalty, their strong sense of community evident in the genuine smiles and friendly greetings that adorn their faces.

Despite the grandeur of the city, a strong emphasis is placed on the well-being and harmony of the werewolf pack, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Next to the Great Hall lies Calir Prep, the prestigious school for the elite and royalty only. As a result of her father’s close relationship with Alpha King Martin, Andromeda was allowed to attend the school despite not being of noble blood.

Pulling into the parking lot, Andromeda couldn’t help but marvel at the school she had attended for the last five years. The campus is made up of lush green grounds, beautifully manicured gardens, and stately courtyards. The main building is nothing short of an architectural wonder with its blend of traditional werewolf aesthetics and modern design. Within the school, there are numerous wings and sections dedicated to different subjects. All the classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources.

The central courtyard of Calir Prep serves as a hub of student activity. It is usually where everyone meets before school starts, during breaks, or after school. The courtyard is often filled with the sounds of laughter, students practicing their supernatural abilities, engaging in friendly competitions, or participating in other various activities.

Getting out of the car, Andromeda started to scan the parking lot to see if she could spot Alexander. When she didn’t see him, she joined Rachel in walking towards the entrance of the school.

As she started to climb the stairs to the entrance, she saw a familiar face walking out of the doors.

Asher! she screamed with a smile on her face. Class is in the opposite direction.

Hey, Andi. I, uh, forgot my pencil in my car. I’m just going to go get it. He said while looking away.

I have a spare that you can use, she said as she rummaged through her purse. She found it and handed it to him, Here you go. She said and smiled.

Uh, thanks. But I forgot my homework too. It’s in the car also, so I’m just going to go run and get it.

Asher, you aren’t skipping school again, are you? Your dad asked me at breakfast to keep an eye on you. No! I would never do that. Don’t worry about it, I will be right back. Just then Rachel appeared out of nowhere, Hey, Asher. What’s going on?

He shrugged his shoulders and started to run down the stairs. Nothing, I’m just going to go get something from my car. I’ll be back.

Andromeda and Rachel looked at each other and smiled.

Rachel said with a smirk, He’s gone to see his mate. He does this all the time.

    His mate? What mate?

Some girl from another realm. I don’t know her name, but I heard her talking to Verona and Kallie the other day about it. Asher is in love with her, but she wants to reject him because he is a Beta. He follows her everywhere, trying to get her to spend some time with him. Asher has this crazy idea that one day she will love him back and not ignore the mate bond.

That’s so sad. Asher is such a great guy. He doesn’t deserve this. He deserves to find love with someone who appreciates and loves him for who he is. Ugh, why did she need to be friends with Verona and Kallie? They are the worst.

Rachel nodded her head and took Andromeda’s arm, Come on, let’s go find the guy you came here to see.

Andromeda smiled and nodded her head, and they made their way inside the school.

Chapter 5 – Last Day of Alpha School

    (Early Morning)

On Alexander's final day at Alpha School, restlessness gnawed at him, making it difficult to focus on anything other than his impending return to Calir. As the sun started to rise above the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, he found himself wandering the school grounds, unable to find solace.

The weight of guilt pressed heavily on his shoulders. He couldn't shake the memories of the days he had spent away from Andromeda, unable to communicate with her or be there for her. It’s been over three years since he last saw her. Despite the excitement of completing his training and becoming a full-fledged Alpha, his heart ached for the bond he had neglected. He hadn’t meant to ignore her. He wanted to share every aspect of Alpha School with her. All the training he completed, the lessons he learned, all the history of their kind. Everything.

As time went by, Alexander felt the need to withdraw from her, to not burden her with his loneliness or his anxiousness about becoming the next Alpha King. In the end, he decided to cut ties with her completely until he came back to Calir. To avoid seeing her, he decided against returning home at all costs, including skipping school breaks, by choosing to remain on the grounds instead. Seeing his family wasn’t an issue because they came to see him often as they always had official business on that side of the kingdom. The hardest part was not responding to her calls or text messages. It broke his heart to see the sadness in her text messages. He just couldn’t bring himself to respond.

As he entered his dorm room, he was met with the sight of a random girl lying in his bed. Her blond hair sprawled out across the pillow, bare back facing the door with the blanket tucked in around her waist. A pang of regret hit him as he realized the empty connection he had sought in moments of loneliness. He knew he should have resisted such temptations, but he found himself numb to anything that wasn't Andromeda.

There was always someone around who wanted a piece of him, some way, somehow. Whether it was a girl trying to become his mate or some macho Alpha trying to prove himself on the field. Someone was always testing his patience. He never shied away from either. Girls filled his bed constantly, and he was challenged on the training grounds almost daily. Everyone wanted their chance with or against the future Alpha King.

Sighing with dread, Alexander walked over to the bed and shook the random girl awake.

Hey there. It’s time to wake up, he said. Shaking her a few more times, the girl finally opened her eyes slowly and yawned.

Morning Alpha. What time is it?

    It’s a little after 5 AM.

Ugh, it’s so early! Wake me up after 8 AM, she said as she fell back to the bed.

Suit yourself. You will have to be the one to explain to the dorm warden why you are in my room, outside of curfew.

As soon as he said that the girl got back up and jumped out of the bed looking for her clothes. Alexander sat on the couch and watched her run around grabbing her belongings as she muttered curse words under her breath.

Shit! I am going to get in so much trouble. This will be my third violation this week! I am going to be on dorm arrest! She exclaimed.

That’s why I woke you up now. So, you don’t get in trouble. The wardens don’t usually get up this early so you should have time to get to your room.

Ugh, thanks, Alex. So today is your last day, huh? she said as she put on her shoes and stood up.

Yeah, I’m headed back home. Training is over.

That’s too bad. I had a lot of fun last night. I wish we would have hooked up sooner. she said as she walked over to him. Crouching down onto her knees, she started to rub his thighs and stared at him seductively.

Maybe I can come visit you in Calir, and we can pick up where we left off.

Nah, I’m good. You have your mate and I have mine. We had our fun, so you better be off now.

She got up and huffed as she walked to the door.

All you guys are the same. Don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, she exclaimed as she opened and slammed his door shut.

Alexander, sighing with relief, got up and locked the door. There was no use in trying to go back to sleep, so he headed to the bathroom to take a shower. As he stood under the cold water, his mind drifted back to Andromeda, wondering how she was doing, whether she was safe, and if she still cared for him after all the time they had spent apart. Feeling anxious and nervous was new to him, but that was the effect she had on him. Getting out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist and headed to the closet. After pulling out some jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and his jacket, he got dressed, brushed his jet-black hair, and put on some cologne. Staring at himself in the mirror, Alexander couldn’t help but wonder what Andromeda would think of how he looked now.

The last time Andromeda saw him, he was shorter and skinny. Now at twenty-one years old, he possesses a commanding presence that demands attention. Standing tall with a muscular build, his hair falls in tousled waves that frame his ruggedly handsome face. Piercing blue eyes hold a mix of determination and compassion, and a scar etches a path from his forehead, slicing through his eyebrows and trailing down his cheek. A loud knock on the door shook him out of deep thought and took him back to the battle that shaped him.

Opening the door, Alexander found his Beta Logan, with a huge grin on his face, and his Gamma Carmine, eating a cinnamon roll.

    Morning Alpha! they both said.

Carmine, why are you always eating? And where did you even get a cinnamon roll from? The cafeteria isn’t open yet.

I banged the girl who makes them. She promised me rolls if I’d let her ride me. So, I did. Carmine said between bites.

You’re a dog, man, Logan said as he sat on the couch.

I do what I gotta do. Plus, we’re leaving. It’s not like it matters. I have needs, she has needs, so we satisfy those needs, together. It’s not like I have a mate or anything. he chuckled sitting on the couch next to him, across from Alexander, who was sitting on the bed, looking out the window.

No one needed to tell the Beta and Gamma what was on his mind. They knew him well enough to sense his unease and turmoil. Over the years, they both tried to offer reassurance, reminding him that he had made a difficult choice for both of their sake.

Andromeda on your mind again? Logan said as Alexander nodded his head and looked down.

I know it's hard, but you made the right decision, he said firmly, as he got up and patted Alexander's back reassuringly. You needed to focus on your training, and you had to be strong for the kingdom.

Carmine nodded in agreement. Andromeda is strong, Alex, he said. She'll understand that you had to do what was necessary for her sake and to protect the realm.

But Alexander couldn't silence the guilt that nagged at him. He wished he had found a way to communicate with Andromeda, to let her know that he was thinking of her every moment he was away. He vowed to do better, to never let anything come between them again.

Come on, let’s go to the training grounds to say our goodbyes. Alexander got up and said. He opened the dorm door and headed out, with Logan and Carmine close behind.

Chapter 6 – Leaving for Calir

As Alexander, Carmine, and Logan made their way to the training grounds at Alpha School to bid farewell to their fellow Alphas, they couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation for their return to Calir. Approaching the grounds, they came across the group of Alphas they didn’t want to see before leaving – Gabe Blackroot, Wysteria Clawthorne, Ethan Stoneridge, and Serena Frost. Alexander rolled his eyes and stepped towards the group.

Looking at the field, there were about thirty Alphas, paired in twos, engrossed in sparring matches. The competitive nature was evident in their determined expressions, everyone was fully engaged with their opponents. These four were no different. Gabe always seemed to relish pushing Alexander's buttons, and it was no different today.

Gabe noticed Alexander's approach and smirked, his eyes locking onto his rival. Ah, look who decided to show up, he taunted. Finally decided to leave Alpha School and head back to mommy and daddy's kingdom, huh? Want to get a last-minute session in with me to see who the Alpha King is really?

Alexander, maintained his composure, refusing to let Gabe's jabs get to him. We're here to say goodbye, he replied calmly. We'll be heading back to Calir.

Wysteria, ever the competitive one, chimed in with a sly smile. Leaving already? Awe, what a shame. I guess we won't miss your constant brooding around here.

Carmine stepped forward, his eyes narrowed with a hint of warning and a low growl. Enough, Wysteria, he said firmly. We're not here to get into it. We're saying our goodbyes.

I don’t recall talking to you Gamma. She hissed, exuding her Alpha aura. The only reason you are here is because of princey poo here. So, I suggest you keep your mouth shut. Alexander, you should teach your mutt some manners.

Alexander put a hand on his gamma’s shoulder to try to calm him down. He could feel the air shift around him and knew Carmine wanted to let his wolf out.

‘Relax buddy. She is just trying to get a rise out of you.’ He said through the mind link.

‘It’s working. I want to rip this bitch’s head off.’ Carmine responded.

    ‘Not worth it my friend.’

Ethan, who had a history of rivalry with Logan, couldn't resist adding his snide comment. Yeah, don't let the door hit you on the way out, he said, smirking as he put an arm around Serena. Serena simply observed the exchange with a hint of amusement in her eyes.

Logan's fists tightened, but he remained calm. Look, we only came to say goodbye to everyone, he said, his voice even. No need for hostility.

Alexander took a deep breath, reminding himself to stay calm. We may not always see eye to eye, but we're all Alphas, he said, addressing the group. Whether you like it or not, I will be your King and you will respect me. There may be a time when your pack will need assistance from the palace. We should respect each other's paths and choices. For the good of the realm.

Gabe crossed his arms, not backing down. For the good of the realm? Do you know what’s good for the realm? You walk away from the throne. You will never be my king. Never. I will never call for you for aid. I don’t respect you and it’s no surprise that I don’t like you. You've always been the teacher's pet. You’ve always thought you were better than us, haven't you, Lykiaos? he retorted. Stepping to Alexander, he was so close that their chests were almost touching.

Alexander's jaw tightened, but before he could reply, Carmine stepped in. Time to go! Adios! he said, turning away from the group. As they walked away, Alexander couldn't shake the lingering tension in the air. He knew that they wouldn't be able to avoid Gabe and the others forever, but for now, he was eager to leave the negativity behind and focus on returning to Calir.

That was close, Logan said as he released the breath, he didn’t know he was holding.

That guy is an asshole. He always has been. His dad is an asshole too. Same with his grandfather. His mom is too. Nothing but a family of assholes. Carmine said as he looked back at them. He better hope he doesn’t need our help one day.

Alexander walked over to a bench and sat down. Looking back at the group, he sighed in frustration. What if more people feel like him? What if no one respects me as a king? I was supposed to be ready to take on this responsibility. I left Alpha School, and I still don’t feel ready. I don’t think I can make everyone happy. How can I earn their respect and how can I ensure the safety of my kingdom? he said, overwhelmed with anxiety and doubt.

You just keep doing what’s right, Logan said as he sat next to him and put his hand on Alexander’s shoulder. You are never going to be able to make everybody happy, but making wise decisions and being a leader that puts others first is the best way to be respected. That’s all you can do, my friend.

Carmine walked towards them and gave Alexander a mischievous smirk. And, well, if all else fails, you will have Andromeda, me, and Logan by your side, he said, smirking even more when Alexander returned the smirk.

The trio shared a laugh, easing the tension of the moment. Alexander took a deep breath and stood up. "No matter what, we are together. Until the last breath we breathe. Until the stars no longer shine. Until the moon goddess calls
