About this ebook

Kaylee

My busy day at the bakery was going great.
Until he showed up.
Moody, rude, impatient, and hotter than the ovens.
Dang it, why does he have to be so attractive?
If I never see him again, it'll be too soon.
Except when I make a cupcake delivery and get a flat tire, he's the one to come to my rescue.

Nik

I feel guilty all day for being rude with the curvy beauty at the bakery.
I was in a hurry and running late.
It's no excuse for how I acted, and I want to make it right.
Imagine my surprise when I find her on the side of my road with a flat tire.
The very least I can do is get her out of this flash flood.
But having her in my house has its own set of problems.
Now all I want to do is get her out of those wet clothes and into my heart.

    KAYLEE

"How many friends does that kid have?" my sister Lainey asks. Her wide eyes skim the spread of cupcakes covering every square inch of my stainless steel surface.

A few I guess, I shrug. Finally cool enough to frost and garnish, I pick up the first cupcake and dip my spatula in the blue frosting.

    "Two hundred is a few?"

Admittedly, this is the largest cupcake order I’ve ever received for a birthday party. The mass order is the only thing that makes the hour-long drive into the mountains worth the hassle. More often than not, my specialty cake decorating sister sitting across from me receives most of the birthday orders, including the one she’s working on now. But this particular customer requested cupcakes only.

It’s at one of those fancy homes with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the mountain range, I say as if that explains away the excessiveness of the order. I know because I stole a few minutes in the office with the computer to look it up while Hannah was busy with breakfast pastries.

Kaylee, we need more cupcakes out here. The case is almost empty! Eliza calls from the doorway that separates the kitchen from the customer counter.

    On it, I call back.

A timer beeps, alerting me to move the sheets of red velvet, double chocolate, and pink lemonade cupcakes out of the oven and onto the cooling racks. I move quickly, but apparently, not quickly enough.

    Kaylee! Eliza hollers.

Do you need my help? Lainey asks, looking up from the meticulous fondant work she’s performing on a princess cake. We all love Lainey’s generous, giving spirit, but interrupting her during sacred custom cake creation time is something we all know better than to do.

    I got it.

I retrieve a sheet of lemon drop, cookies and cream, and vanilla cupcakes from the cooler, on a mission to refill the nearly empty display case before the second oven beeps a warning at me.

My four sisters and I started the Sprinkles on Top bakery a little over a year ago. We each have our own specialty; mine is cupcakes. To say business has been a booming success is an understatement. The long lines, constant customer traffic, and dozens of custom orders every week attest to that.

I need three of those red velvet, Becca says from behind the cash register as I rush by with the heavy metal tray. I box her up the request then begin transferring cupcakes into the display case as quickly as I can.

About to head back to the kitchen to grab another tray, a deep male voice stops me. Is it always this busy in here? The sharpness in his tone cautions me to take a deep breath and plaster on a smile before I come up to eye-level.

Pretty much. Isn’t it wonderful? My false smile freezes across my lips as I take him in. All six foot four or five of him. Broad shoulders, chiseled jaw covered with two or three days of stubble,
