    Healed - Joel Siegel

    Day 1 - Delivered

Being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. Colossians 1:11-13

One of the benefits of the New Testament letters, written by Paul and others, is that they reveal what belongs to us as children of God. This information is vital, for in God’s kingdom, to not know is to not have. We receive from God not only based on who He is, but on our knowledge of who He is. If we don’t know as we ought, we won’t receive as we ought. Many fail to receive healing simply because they don’t know—they’re ignorant of important truths concerning healing.

For example, we must understand that, in most cases, we’re not waiting for God to do something about our situation. We’re not waiting for Him to touch us. We’re not waiting for Him to send power from Heaven. It’s not a matter of getting God to do as much as it is getting the believer to see. We must discover who God has made us and what He’s given us, and by faith, see ourselves as He sees us. Doing so allows us to easily tap into His power, which will cause healing to manifest in our bodies.

Verse 13 in our text reveals one of these great truths: He has delivered us from the domain of darkness. Amazing. I have been delivered. You have been delivered. One need not understand the full meaning of this statement to know it sounds wonderful. Whether you fully grasp the meaning, make this declaration right now: I have been delivered. Say it slowly a few more times: I have been delivered.

Most of us have at least some idea of what it means to be delivered. It means to be rescued. It means to be set free from captivity. The Greek word translated as delivered means to draw to one’s self. That’s what God did when He sent Jesus to redeem us. He drew us to Himself. Picture yourself right now in God’s arms, right up against His person. That’s not just wishful thinking, that’s reality. We’ve been drawn to Him—into His very presence.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Moses serves as a picture of God’s deliverance. He was miraculously rescued and was later used by God to rescue others. Like the New Testament word for deliverance, Moses’ name also means drawn out. That, of course, was a reference to him being drawn out of the river as a baby by Pharaoh’s daughter.

I’ve heard the story of Moses’ deliverance my whole life, and remember as a child seeing an artist’s rendering of this scene. It depicted Moses peacefully floating in a basket down a narrow stream. Friends, that’s not what the Bible teaches. It says his mother launched him into the river. Scholars universally agree this is a reference to the Nile, a powerful body of water almost two miles wide and over four thousand miles long. This was no small deliverance! Had Pharaoh’s daughter not rescued Moses, he would have quickly perished.

When our lives appear to be caught in the flow of forces stronger than us—when circumstances seem beyond our control—know that God’s deliverance is sure. Not only will he deliver, our text says He has delivered us.

If He’s delivered us, why am I still suffering? many would rightly ask. His deliverance manifests in our lives only when we steadfastly believe and act upon it. To say it another way, His deliverance must become a reality within us before we’ll experience it around us. We must be convinced of our freedom inwardly—spiritually—before we’ll experience it physically. That’s why we confessed I have been delivered several times. Speaking God’s Word helps us recognize the truth of His Word. When you see yourself as having already been delivered, God’s delivering power is able to flow into your body.

Notice that we’ve been delivered from the domain of darkness. The domain of darkness includes all the work of the enemy, the devil. He dwells in darkness and seeks to force it upon our lives. If you’re living in darkness, if you’ve received a hopeless report, if defeat seems inevitable, I have good news for you: you’ve been delivered. The darkness the enemy is using against you has been dispelled by God’s light. According to God’s Word, you’re free. Say this: Darkness has no dominion over me.

If darkness has no dominion over you, the works of darkness have no dominion over you. That means sickness has no dominion over you. You’ve been delivered from sickness!

The last phrase of verse 13 says we’ve been transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son. What does it mean to be transferred? It means you’ve been removed from one situation and placed in another. That’s what’s happened to you. You’ve been delivered from darkness—from sickness—and have been transferred into the kingdom of His Son. In the kingdom of Heaven, there’s no sickness, therefore you can say you’ve been transferred from sickness to health. See yourself having been transferred. You’re no longer in the sick room. You’ve been transferred to the kingdom of healing.

That’s all well and good, but I still feel awful, many might say. Although that may be true, there’s a way out. Feelings, symptoms, test results, and diagnoses will never change God’s Word. Practice verse 12 of this passage. Continually give thanks for your deliverance. It’s part of your eternal inheritance in Christ—it’s yours right now—and it’s guaranteed. God always rescues. He’ll deliver you again and again.

[For it is He] Who rescued and saved us from such a perilous death, and He will still rescue and save us; in and on Him we have set our hope (our joyful and confident expectation) that He will again deliver us [from danger and destruction and draw us to Himself], 2 Corinthians 1:10 (AMP)

Confession: I’ve been delivered. Sickness has no dominion over me. I’m in the kingdom of healing. He has delivered me.

    Day 2 - Long Life

Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalms 91:14-16

God is serious about bringing deliverance and protection to our lives. Yet His great help is not all up to Him. Notice in this great passage that we’re participants, not spectators, in His deliverance. We hold fast to Him in love. We understand the authority inherent in His name. We call to Him. He does His part as we do our part.

The results of this divine partnership? He satisfies us with long life.

It’s never God’s plan for His children to die prematurely. Although it happens to some, it need not happen to you; not everyone knows what you know. Many don’t know that God has promised us long life on Earth.

It’s important that we live a long time. And it’s important that we live well while we’re living long. God needs people in all phases of life—older adults included—engaged in His service. Those who have lived for God for many decades have experience in life and faith that those in their twenties and thirties don’t yet have. That experience is valuable. It means something when a person in their eighties or nineties can say, God’s been faithful to me and has kept me well these many decades. It’s a testimony to His delivering power when His people live long.

Verse 16 in our text says, I will satisfy him. God’s interested in our satisfaction. He desires we remain on Earth until we have a sense of completion about our lives. Just as we eat until we’re full, we can live until we’re full. No unfinished business. No loose ends. No early departures; everything wrapped up and ready for us to depart at just the right time.

Here’s another great verse along these lines:

You will go to the grave at a ripe old age, like a sheaf of grain harvested at the proper time! Job 5:26 (NLT)

When you’re satisfied with life, you’re ripe and ready. If you’re not satisfied, you’re not yet ripe. What happens when fruit isn’t ripe? We let it age until it’s ready. That’s us. We continue to age—fully engaged in the work of God—until we’re ready. We stay until the proper time.

Notice some other powerful translations of this passage:

You’ll see your children grow up, your family lovely and graceful as orchard grass. You’ll arrive at your grave ripe with many good years, like sheaves of golden grain at harvest. "Yes, this is the way things are—my word of honor! Take it to heart and you won’t go wrong." Job 5:25-27 (MSG)

You will come to the grave with all your strength, like bundles of grain gathered at the right time. Job 5:26 (NCV)

What amazing words! We go to the grave, not stricken with weakness and ravaged by disease, but with all our strength. We don’t just live long, we live strong. Say this with me: I’m living all my years, with all my strength. Repeat that until it makes you happy!

    It’s not God’s plan
