Ready to Go Bible Messages 2 - Pilgrim Preacher

    How Sure Was the Tomb?

Harry Houdini was a great escape artist – one place he could not escape from was the grave. Jesus Christ escaped from the tomb.

There are two parts to this message:

1: How sure was the tomb?

    2: How sure are you?

    ––––––––

1: How Sure Was the Tomb?

    A: The Suffering – Luke 23:45 – 48

The suffering on the Cross was intense and severe. Cold-hearted soldiers. Crucifixion means every nerve in the body cries out in agony. The people saw Him gasp his last breath and were convinced He was dead.

    B: The Spear – John 19:32 – 35

A soldier thrust a spear into Jesus' dead body and out came congealed blood and water.

    C: The Spices – John 19:38 – 42

Spices a hundred-pound weight, costly, anointed dead body of Jesus.

Body and face wrapped in yards of linen grave clothes cemented together with a gummy mixture – no chance for swoon theory.

Laid in Joseph’s own prepared tomb - a site seen and known by the women and disciples – no chance of mistaken site theory - C.F. Luke 23:55 & Mark 15:47

    D: The Stone

The tomb entrance boulder was described as ‘exceeding large’ ‘Great stone’.

It took several strong men to move the stone - a large heavy disk that moves along a slot.

    E: The Seal

Matthew 27:62 – 66 – A cord stretched from side to side and sealed with clay at each end. A disturbance would be noted. The seal had all authority of Rome behind it. This was done to prevent the theft of the body. It provided undeniable proof concerning the veracity of the Resurrection.

    F: The Soldiers

Matthew 27:65, 66 – A Roman guard consists of ten to thirty armed men stationed around the tomb site for the weekend, lest the body be stolen. The soldiers are objective loyalists to Rome. To fall asleep on guard meant severe discipline.

Against these odds, the cowardly bewildered disciples were no match.

    C.F. John 20:19

    The Resurrection and Events

Matthew 28:1 – 5 – Early Sunday morning the women came to the tomb entrance. They did not see the body, but an angel with a message for them about the risen Jesus.

John 20:1 - 7 – The women ran and told the disciples, who ran to the site to investigate the scene. They saw that the tomb was empty, grave clothes empty.

1 Corinthians 15:1 - 8 – The risen Lord was seen by the disciples many times and by over 500 people. These became transformed lives, bold believers, suffering martyrs.

2: How Sure Are You? (What does this change in your life?)

    A: Salvation

Jesus is the only founder of a religion that claimed to die for sinners and sins of the world of people for all time and substantiate that claim of God-hood by rising from the dead – His bones cannot be found, unlike those of other religious sects' founders.

All of Adam’s race was born to die; those born again in Christ, experience His resurrection.

    C.F. 1 Corinthians 15:17 – 19 & Romans 10:9 & Hebrews 7:25 & 1 John 5:13

    B: Service

2 Corinthians 5:14, 15 – Christian service is based on being sure of the Facts.

Why are you here? To live for Him who lives for you.

We have a lively hope as we serve God and help people.

Because Christ arose, we have this assurance of our own blessed Resurrection.

    C.F. Romans 6: 13 & 1Corinthians 15:23 & 1 Peter 1:3 & John 14:2

The resurrection is an established historic fact.

Have you received the risen Christ as your personal Savior?

Are you serving the risen King of life?

    The Current of the Age

1Samuel 17:8 And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. 17:9 If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. 17:10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.

    1: Against the Current

    A: Goliath’s in the Nation

Goliath’s philosophy is all through the nation. His arrogance and defiance are evident daily. He defies the people of God.

In the nation, he pushes evolution, free love, abortion, alcoholism, brothels, casinos, witchcraft, and the rights of the reprobate.

For God’s people, the right road is not an easy road. If you want to live godly, the current of the age is against you.

    2Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all
