About this ebook

Welcome to the Online Speed Reading Course. This is a program aimed at helping business professionals and managers to become proficient online readers who will enhance their reading skills through the use of proven speed reading tactics and techniques.

Before we begin to get into the lessons and information provided through this courseware, it is a good idea to get a bit of background on speed reading and how it is far more than some kind of parlor trick or unproductive tactic.

Did you know that you can read (if you have not already attempted other speed reading courses or techniques) around 250 words per minute? This speed is also going to mean that you are reading as fast as possible and probably not understanding all that you have just scanned or attempted to take in.

What is interesting is that the reading habits you have developed over the years are what tends to put this "cap" or limit on the number of words your brain can take in at any given time.

For example, there is an eye movement known as "regression," which is used by speed readers to describe one of the worst reading habits. It is the description of the way that a reader allows their eyes to return to previously read words, phrases, or entire sentences. Many people do this without being aware of it, and it drastically slows their reading speed and impacts their comprehension.

Applying speed reading techniques to such a habit can improve reading times and increase the reader's understanding of the text.

    Eye movement, introductory psychology, and sub-vocalization are all further examples of habits that affect the speed reader. Indeed, they affect every reader. This course will teach you to recognize and understand all of your pre-existing reading habits. It will then show you how to eliminate the worst of these habits to  use all of your most exemplary reading skills to take in vast amounts of information very quickly. You will also learn about retaining and comprehending information at all new levels!

    ––––––––

    This could ask why the reading speed is vital to a business manager, but either way, it is interesting to consider the pace of reading, or WPM (words per minute) means in terms of professional skills. Let's use a very simple mathematical example to explain:

    The average page contains 23 lines of text (this is in a professional doublespaced format)

    Most Readability Scores (this is information tracked by business software,

    including Microsoft Word) puts the best sentence length at roughly 12.5 words per line;

    This averages to 288 words per page, but most would bump that up to a nice round 300 words (or more);

    This means that someone who can get their WPM count to 300 or higher could feasibly read a 100-page report in half of an hour!

    Consider that this example applies to a printed document, but the same mathematics would apply to a computer screen as well. (Especially if the reader had an LCD screen that could allow the text to be enlarged for easier reading.)

    This demonstrates quite plainly that it would be of tremendous use to most business professionals to develop their speed reading

    skills simply to save time and still do the different reading assignments required.

    Let's not forget, however, that most fields and industries have become more competitive than ever, and this finds people with full- time jobs still attempting to squeeze study time or professional coursework into their schedules as well. The The problem with professional training is that you may have to read and comprehend an additional hundred pages or more at the beginning or end of a long work day!

    The business manager also has
