    Chapter One

The night sky hung heavy with a blanket of stars, casting an eerie glow over the remote ranch. Elena Ramirez stood at the edge of the grazing pasture, the faint rustle of the wind and the distant hoot of an owl the only sounds breaking the silence. She adjusted her wide-brimmed hat, its shadow concealing her determined gaze.

This is where it happened, Professor, Maria whispered, her voice trembling. My cattle, they’re all gone.

Elena nodded solemnly, her mind racing with possibilities. Tell me everything, Maria. Every detail.

Elena stood up, her curiosity piqued. Let’s head back to town and gather more information. We’ll set up a monitoring system here tonight.

The small town nestled at the edge of the ranch was just as quiet and foreboding. Streetlights cast long shadows on the deserted streets. Elena and Alex walked into the local diner, where the few remaining patrons huddled together, their whispers hushed.

Elena approached the bar, her presence commanding attention. We’re here to investigate the recent incidents at Maria’s ranch, she announced, her tone firm.

A grizzled old man sitting at the corner of the bar spoke up, Y’all think it’s the Chupacabra, don’t ya?
