    The Shadows of Gloomhaven

Dr. Helena Graves steered her aged Land Rover through Gloomhaven's foggy outskirts as dawn bled into the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. Beside her, Luna, a black Labrador with a gaze as deep as the night, sat alert. In the back, Echo, a Belgian Malinois with ears pricked, shared space with Fang, a bloodhound whose nose twitched at the myriad scents invading his senses through the slightly ajar window.

As they entered Gloomhaven, a blanket of silence enveloped them. The town, known for its quaint charm, now resembled a scene from a forgotten tale, with mist curling around the wheels of the vehicle like spectral hands trying to slow their progress.

It seems like we're not exactly welcomed, Dr. Graves murmured, her eyes scanning the nearly deserted streets. Only the occasional flicker of light from behind closed curtains suggested life in the otherwise dormant town.

Luna let out a low growl, her body tense. Helena glanced at her companion, nodding in understanding. I feel it too, Luna. There's something amiss here.

Pulling up in front of the town's police station, a structure as old as the mysteries it housed, Helena killed the engine. The silence that followed was almost oppressive. She opened the door, and her team leaped out, each animal stretching and surveying their new environment with a mix of curiosity and caution.

As they approached the station, the door creaked open, and a man in uniform stepped out. His badge identified him as Deputy Sam Carter. His eyes widened slightly at the sight of the canine team—a mix of surprise and something else—relief, perhaps.

Dr. Graves, I presume? he asked, extending a hand.

Yes, and you must be Deputy Carter. It's a pleasure, Helena replied, shaking her hand firmly. These are my associates, Luna, Echo, and Fang.

The deputy kneeled to greet each dog, offering a hand to sniff and a friendly pat on the head. We've heard a lot about you and your team. The whole town's been on edge with the disappearances. We're hoping you can shed some light on whatever's happening.

Helena nodded, her expression serious. That's the plan. I understand there have been four cases in the past two months.

That's correct, Deputy Carter confirmed, leading them inside. All within the town's limits. There are no witnesses, no signs of struggle, and no leads.

Inside, they were met with the smell of old coffee and the sound of hushed conversations. The deputy guided them to a small, cluttered office where maps of the town and photos of the missing individuals were spread out on a table.

Helena studied the maps, her fingers tracing the locations of the disappearances. Any connections between the victims?

None that we can find. Different ages, backgrounds, and no overlapping social circles. It's as if they vanished into thin air, the deputy replied, frustration evident in his voice.

Luna suddenly stiffened, her gaze fixed on a point outside the window. Helena followed her line of sight but saw nothing out of the ordinary. What is it, girl?

Luna whined softly, her discomfort clear. Helena turned
