Self-propelled endless store of nutrients
F:\my_books\amazon\am_ancient_wisdom\cover_design\cover_logo_old.jpg All of us survive by the food that we eat. We need carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in addition to trace amounts of minerals and vitamins. Plants too need some basic nutrition to grow, put on flowers, produce fruits, and to survive in the endless struggle for existence.
The primary nutrition that the plants need is the so-called macro nutrients namely Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potash – commonly called NPK. By the way, K is for Kalium – the Latin word for Potash.
To put it simply, Nitrogen is needed for vegetative growth, Phosphorous is needed for flowering and fruiting, and Potash is needed for development of a strong root system. They also need several minerals in traces – the so called micro nutrients.
Now, there are two ways of providing these to the plants. Either provide them with chemical fertilizers rich in these 3 macro nutrients, or the other way is to resort to nature. I mean use organic fertilizers.
Nowadays, everyone knows the ills of using chemical fertilizers. They are like junk food – very rich in nutrition, but poorly balanced and unhealthy. On the other hand, organic fertilizers have their own problems.
For one, organic fertilizers are bulky and difficult to handle. Unless you produce them yourself, they can be costly as well, since you need to provide lot of them to get the same yield that you would have got by using chemical fertilizers.
Is there an alternative?
Luckily there is. You neither have to buy chemical fertilizers nor produce organic fertilizers, but still you can nurture your plants with all that they need! Wonderful isn’t it? And if the source of this nutrition is endless and self-propelling, then it is no short of a miracle! All that you need to do is to just start the process. The rest, the nature takes care of.
Curious to how such a thing is possible? Continue to read on about a very interesting journey into this miraculous world of gardening, where you just mediate and things will happen on their own! Almost unattended, almost costing not even a penny. That is nature’s miracle!
F:\my_books\amazon\end_of_chapter.jpgMiracle makers
F:\my_books\amazon\am_ancient_wisdom\cover_design\cover_logo_old.jpg Now-a-days one keeps coming across many Gurus, who use miracles to attract more followers. They write books on their mystic experiences; put up internet ads promising wonderful results if you enroll in their courses.
But we often close our eyes to miracles that have been going on around us since ages and still very active. But these miracle makers don’t put up ads, nor they are interested in our ‘donations’.
Are you aware of them?
You may be wondering why am I talking about miracle makers when I am supposed to be talking about gardening! In the last section I had promised you that I would talk about ways of nurturing the plants by neither feeding them with harmful chemical fertilizers nor getting into the hassle of managing organic fertilizers. Ok, rest assured, I am still on the track 😉
I said that the plants need Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potash as their main nutrients. You probably are aware that the air around us is made up of almost 80% Nitrogen! That means we are sitting on a treasure trove! Nitrogen is available in plenty and costs nothing. It is also never exhaustible. No matter how much we use it, it is always available in plenty.
Why don’t the plants use that Nitrogen?
The problem is that the plants cannot directly use atmospheric nitrogen.
