What inspired the young Dave Goulson to get into insects?

I’ve no idea why, but I was obsessed by nature in general from a very early age, and never grew out of it. My parents encouraged me but had no particular interest themselves.

Can you tell us about your garden at home?

I’m not much of a planner! But broadly, the idea is to have some degree of order, with lots of colourful bee-friendly plants in the areas immediately surrounding our house, and the wilder areas – meadow, orchard, thickets of brambles – further away. I add things to wherever feels right, and allow
