It’s always strange, waking up in someone else’s bed.

You’d think I’d be used to it by now – I’m a house sitter, so I bounce from one place to the next, wherever the agency sends me. But it’s still a little disorientating every morning, that bleary moment when I first open my eyes and wonder which stranger’s house I’m staying in this week.

I yawn and stretch, rolling over to check the time. Outside the bedroom door I can hear the cat meowing plaintively, so I get up and feed him. Once I’ve eaten my own breakfast, I hop in the shower and use some of the expensive branded shampoo and conditioner.

It’s a nice house, where I’m currently staying. The owner – Imogen Mackenzie, a barrister – doesn’t skimp when it comes to little luxuries. Even in the guest bedroom the sheets are Egyptian cotton, a cashmere blanket casually draped across the end of the bed and an orchid heavy with blooms placed on the nightstand.

Imogen also happens to be a member of Pearl Valley Spa, an exclusive health and wellbeing facility that’s every bit as beautiful as the photos on the website make it look.

How do I know this?

Well… I might have borrowed her membership card, which she left lying around. We look similar enough that I was able to breeze right through reception. I even got to briefly try out the pool before I was caught by a security guard.
