Press Play for a Purpose - Christopher Stevens
Introduction
Iwill not claim to be the person who created
this methodology, I simply discovered it on my awakening journey, as we all tend to.
In fact, you probably have been doing this yourself, but you were unaware of it. And unfortunately, in a negative way.
I always felt it but never knew what it was. I remember I would usually feel these sensations when watching a particular movie or listening to a piece of music that I could not explain but knew it had an effect on me. It would leave me feeling vibrant, courageous, and powerful, like I could accomplish more than I felt before. I would just put it in the back of my mind, but I had no idea that years later, I would be thankful for the gift of being aware of this. It wasn't until I began to start questioning myself about why I felt a change inside after viewing or listening to these resources. My awakening journey actually led me on a path where I found someone who discovered the same thing, although he uses it for a completely different purpose, which has nothing to do with this book.
Let's talk about negative and positive influences for a second. Have you ever had one of your parents discipline you with words? Have you ever had a moment where you caught yourself saying the same words to a sibling or just to yourself and laughed, then immediately thought back to that time when your parent said it over and over? I have had this happen more than a few times.
My mother was and still is straightforward. Oftentimes, being kids, we would be in a world of our own, and the only way to snap us out of it was by hearing a few select words, and Sit your ass down
or Shut the Hell up
was my mother’s way of saying, Okay kids, you're getting out of control, tone it down.
Well, one day, I was in charge of babysitting. I couldn't get my younger siblings to behave and stop arguing. I intended to say, shut up
(still not a polite thing to say, I know, but it wasn't meant with hatred), yet somehow shut the hell up
came out of my mouth instead. I was in shock. I didn't know why I said it and had no intention of saying it, but that's what happened.
Now I can look back and see that all those times I heard my mother use this phrase, it had been recorded in my subconscious. When she felt she was losing control, or we weren't being respectful, she had to drop that line, and naturally, when I felt I was losing control of my siblings, it was like my brain hit the play button and my mouth was the speaker.
This is called conditioning.
Definition of CONDITIONING
1: A simple form of learning involving the formation, strengthening, or weakening of an association between a stimulus and a response.
Let's look at some other examples of conditioning.
Reaching to turn on a light switch. You don't have to think about it. You just do it.
Turning the key to turn on your car. You don't have to think about it. You just do it.
The reason you just do it is because you have done it many times already, and now it's just second nature, subconscious.
Now there can be positive and negative conditioning. Imagine if, when you were a child, you saw your parents argue and things got violent or abusive—daily. It's highly likely that if you stay in that environment for a certain amount of time, you will grow up thinking this is normal.
If you became a parent and argued with your significant other, it's likely that you could end up in the same situation. This is negative conditioning. You had no control over that environment. You could not simply change the channel or skip the song or look away. That was out of your control.
Now let's imagine the opposite. You are in an environment where you see two people in harmony who show love to each other and to you. You see disagreements resolved in a composed, mature, and respectful manner, and they move on with their lives, still showing love and affection to each other and to you. Odds are, you will turn out to be a great partner to someone if you were to stay in this positive, loving environment.
Receiving positive encouragement is also a good indicator of how you turn out. For example, when playing a sport or any other recreational activity, and you are always being cheered on by the coach, the cheerleaders, or your parents in the audience as opposed to being constantly nagged and told unconstructive criticism, odds are you will have more of a chance of succeeding because you have a support system within a positive conditioning environment. That's the whole purpose of coaches and cheerleaders. To keep you motivated and help you develop that belief in yourself when it's starting to dwindle.
Definition of e-motion
1: Energy in motion
Okay, not trying to make any enemies here, but I used to be a huge hip-hop fan. I mean the hardcore rap fan. I could and can still to this day remember most of the lyrics to some of my favorite songs from my teenage years. In high school, I was like most teenagers going through puberty. I would have e-motions all over the spectrum, even if it were for a brief time. Still, the one that was always lingering around inside me was this anger. I had no idea where it came from. I just remember being angry all the time. So being on this negative frequency (in this negative vibration) only attracted more negative energy.
I was a good kid, but my grades were below average, and I didn't play any sports. I honestly felt like going to school every day was like going to prison. Then one day, while riding the bus, I remember listening to this song
