Prologue
During the summer of 1954, I was living at the Seoul Sanitarium and Hospital Orphanage in South Korea. And American soldiers would often visit us, many of them arriving to give special attention to their favorite orphan(s). The soldiers would occasionally bring enough snacks to treat everyone in the entire orphanage, and the grateful children would talk about the especially enjoyable occasion for the next day or two.
