Tragedy Strikes

Hexley was just eight years old when she came home from school and found her parents on the couch, their bodies still and lifeless. They had overdosed on heroin, a drug that had become all too familiar to them. Hexley knew something was wrong the moment she saw them, but she couldn't quite understand what it was. She shook them, trying to wake them up, but they didn't respond.

Mama? Daddy? Wake up, please! Hexley pleaded, shaking her parents' lifeless bodies.

When they still didn't wake up, Hexley's fear turned into panic. She ran to the phone and frantically dialed 911.

911, what's your emergency? the operator asked.

My parents won't wake up! They're not breathing! Hexley cried into the phone.

Okay, stay calm, sweetie. What's your address? the operator asked.

Hexley struggled to give the operator her address, her voice shaking with fear. Finally, she managed to tell them where she was and what had happened.

Help is on the way, sweetie. Just stay on the line with me and tell me what's happening, the operator said soothingly.

Within minutes, the sound of sirens filled the air, and a team of paramedics and police officers rushed into the house. Hexley watched in horror as they tried to revive her parents, but it was too late. They were gone.

As the paramedics worked, an officer found Hexley cowering behind a La-Z-Boy chair in the corner of the room. He knelt down and gently took her hand.

Hey there, it's going to be okay. What's your name? the officer asked.

Hexley, she replied, tears streaming down her face.

"Hi, Hexley. My name is Officer Jenkins.
