My name is Francisco Javier Toussaint Parrodi. I was born in Mexico City on December 10th, 1972, at 8:05 AM, to my parents, Beatriz Eugenia Parrodi Arroyo and Francisco Javier Toussaint Ribot. I was the first of their three sons. My brothers, Marlene and José Manuel, followed 3½ and 12 years later, respectively.

Born in a standard upper-middle-class and traditionally Catholic Mexican family, I consider myself a privileged man and, according to my mother, a survivor from the start.

I want to share the first defining experience of my life – one that I do not remember. In fact, my mother was the one who retold these events quite a few times in my early years.

"You are a survivor," she would always say.

"When I was pregnant with you, my doctors told me I had hepatitis. So, the chances that you would make it were really small!"

In those moments, while she would relive the beginning of my life, I wouldn’t know what to make of it. I did not understand nor pay attention to the meaning of this close encounter with death. Neither did I consider that I would have to face events like this in the years that followed.

But one thing was for certain, this key moment was the first hand that sculpted my soul and personality, whether I realized it or not. While I do not have any concrete proof of the effects of such impactful circumstances on a pregnant mother and the baby growing inside, I will say surely some feeling or seed of inner wisdom had been sown.

Today 47 years later, from that faithful beginning, I have taken the decision to write and share my story, not only to record my experience but also to connect with others. I hope some good can be gained from my words, and sharing has always been a value that uplifts my spirit.

Recently, I read a book written by Yuval Noah Harari, titled Homo Deus - by the way, an excellent book - that suggested somewhere in its pages that all of us should take a DNA test. This idea deeply resonated with me because, in that instant, I knew the results of such a test would reveal more specific information about myself. With such clear instructions in mind,
