Poetry of an Addict

About this ebook
This is some of the poetry I have written over the past 20 or so years. It is not complex or brilliant. It is what it is, and that is a group of works from an alcoholic, and drug addict. Some were written sober, but a lot were not. Some are good (I think) and some are crap (I am sure). Either way you may find it amusing, or interesting, if not good.
Some of these were written when I was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and some have been written since I have entered recovery. The oldest poem in this collection was written in 1987, when I was fourteen years old.

This book is dedicated to my wife Kim, my parents Raymond and Beverly and my brother Jeff for staying with me during the hard times. You all gave me the strength and love I needed to maintain my recovery.
And to my three daughters, Kinsey, Sara, and Baylie who watched me grow up as much as I watched them.

The following collection consists of around one hundred poems that I have written. Some I have written while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and some have been written since I became drug free. The oldest poem in this collection is from 1987, when I was fourteen years old.
All of my poems are pretty basic in their style and form. The messages in most of them are strong, I hope, though in others I know they have no real point.
I don’t want to be, or claim to be, a great poet. I am just an addict who threw some ideas in to words that rhymed. This, I know, is no great feat. However, I was hoping it would help me see things differently, and some cases, it did.
I named this collection ‘Poetry of an Addict’ because that is what I am: an addict. I have tried many drugs and I never tried one I didn’t like. I have done many things I am ashamed of in my life, and I have done things that I can never make right. I may be clean now, but the damage I caused my loved ones will last, in some form, forever. I tell you this, because I think it is important for people to know a little about the poet they are reading about, so they can see where the ideas and inspiration came from.
I in no way condone or endorse the illegal use of drugs or any other illegal act, especially ones that cause harm to others. Some of the poems that follow may appear to contradict that, but it is true. These poems were random thoughts that I had and put to paper, nothing more or less. Try not to read into things that aren’t intended.
The poems that follow are listed in no particular order. The order does not indicate when they were written; the poems are listed randomly. I
