    Preface

    Poems have always been a way for individuals to express themselves. Whether from the pangs of unrequited love or the heated passions one feels towards their rivals and enemies, emotions have been the inspiration for poetry. I learned early on the relief felt from indulging in a good poetic piece or, better yet, writing one.

    What greater time of emotional turmoil, angst and exhilaration is there than the time of adolescence; more specifically, those years between seventh grade and twelfth grade or rather junior high school to high school. I cannot truthfully say that my teenage years were any more hectic or emotional than any other teenager but I certainly felt that way. I felt alone and greatly misunderstood. To say I was depressed and insecure would be an understatement. From my studies in neurobiology and psychology I know that a lot of what goes on with teens can be due to hormones and normal brain development but that doesn’t diminish the impact these feelings have on an individual. Many young people need something or somebody to help them make it through this tough and confusing time. They need an escape,
