Valentine - M.D. LaBelle
Chapter 1: Nowhere Fast
While I run my fingertip deliberately over the chrome of the candy apple red Shelby Mustang GT350R, I close my eyes and imagine the wind whipping my hair back as the engine roars to life. Of course, it is just wishful thinking right now because my uncle just brought it in with the wrecker no more than an hour ago. The muscular man who slid out of the passenger side of the truck did not look happy when my uncle informed him that it would be quite a while before the parts would come in. Matter of fact, he looked down right pissed when his hands clenched up in his jean pockets and then I watched his jaw grind. I could tell that he was just working out the details in his head and trying to find a way of expediting the process.
What the fuck do you mean?
He asks loudly before he slides his hands out of his pockets and slams his closed fist on my uncle’s desk before raising it to the back of his neck to knead the tense muscles there.
I could already tell that this was going to be one long ass week if he was forced to stick around this little town of ours, and you know, there is just something about him that makes my toes curl. Like when you see a particularly delicious piece of cake, but you know that you shouldn’t eat it because you are trying to lose weight. Of course, God knows that I need to lose a few pounds. After all, I am far from what you would call thin.
Sir, I need to order the parts now or it will be another two weeks because they close in five minutes, and they are not open on the weekend.
My uncle says hesitantly while he glances over at me with a warning and taps the tip of the pen on the table in front of him.
At this moment, I choose to butt in as I walk over to his desk and say sweetly in my thick southern accent, Vicky has a room she can rent him for a week or two. If you want me to, I will go get her now?
My uncle shakes his head and darts another warning look at me before he says sternly in a deeper voice now, No, that is not necessary. He has agreed that he will be staying with us. That way as soon as the parts come in and I have her fixed, he can get back to the city.
The moment the words leave his mouth, I glance over at the tall man next to me and realize that he is younger than I initially thought he was. As I stare at him even longer, something begins to nag at me because I get the sense that I know him from somewhere. He isn’t pretty enough to be an actor, but he is someone famous. That I am sure of.
While still bold enough, I clear my throat before asking awkwardly, By the way, you look familiar. Have you ever been on T.V.?
As soon as I ask it, a smirk spreads across that chiseled face with a five o’clock shadow already showing, even though it is only noon. Then he glances down at me nonchalantly before replying with a deep voice, sarcastically, If you have ever watched Friday night boxing, you may have caught a few glimpses of me here and there. The name is Valentine.
By the time I realize he has extended his hand for me to shake, it is already too late because I watch him quickly withdraw it as soon as the skin of my palm brushes his. He withdraws it so quickly it was almost as if my touch burnt him and then he gets a pained look on his face for only a moment before my uncle interjects, Alright. Melissa, will you go make up the spare bedroom for our guest, please?
He asks softly before gesturing for me to hurry.
Right before I turn around to leave the room and do as my uncle says reluctantly, Trina walks in and begins to drool over the fresh meat. Trina is my best friend, but admittedly she is the town tramp as well. Pretty much every man in this town has dipped their wick in her at one time or another. Now, I can’t say that I am virginal either, but I pick and choose who I let between my legs.
While I try to figure out how to get Trina out of here as soon as possible, I glance over to where Valentine is standing and notice that he is staring right back at me. Matter of fact, he seems to be slowly drinking me in as if his life depends on it. This man that I thought wouldn’t even give me a second glance, is completely ignoring Trina’s quick advances and is all eyes on me for the moment. This I can use to my advantage even though I don’t pretend to understand why he would choose me over Trina who is 25, fair skinned with long blonde curly hair and rail thin, but still has the perkiest breasts around.
Sugar, if you want some company later, just head on down to Malloy’s. That is our one and only bar. It is the biggest building in the town square besides the old gymnasium. Apparently, they used to hold fights there sometimes.
She says with an even thicker southern accent than mine as she wraps her wicked little fingers around his biceps and strokes them up and down suggestively.
She licks her lips as she glances over at me with a naughty little grin before she steps up on her tip toes to whisper something in his ear. He whispers quickly in return and then I watch her slowly back off with a defeated look in her eyes. It appears that she has lost this round for the moment, but the day is young, and she never gives up easily. So, it is hard to tell if she will end up in his bed tonight or not.
When she walks over to me, I can already tell that she wants him bad, long before she ever whispers, Damnit girl. If you don’t lick his dick, I will, because I bet his creamy filling is as appetizing as the rest of him looks.
and then she walks past me with an emphasis in the swing of her hips and right out the front door.
After my uncle gets off the phone, he looks up and notices that I am still standing where I was not more than five minutes earlier when he had asked me to go inside and make up Valentine’s room. When he does, he furrows his brow and says angrily, Don’t make me tell you again.
Don’t worry.
