CHAPTER ONE
Pay day (at long last) heralded Sophie’s thirtieth birthday, and the start of her much longed for holiday. A scan of her colleagues at the Galworth Tribune newspaper office gave no excuse to pull her away from writing her article. A fluff piece on actor Hugh Grant’s career, now that he was showing his age and was married with a gaggle of children. The piece almost finished, Sophie glanced around again, in need of a distraction. Her best friend Harry was out of the office, so a cheeky bottle of red and some gossip with Charlene the assistant to the Editor would have to do for now. A treat was seriously overdue.
It was a Tuesday morning when Sophie’s boredom peaked. A walk along the High Street to the bed store wasn’t doing its usual good job at clearing her mind. A quick glance at her watch before she fussed with the pillows once more, and then turned her attention to the bedclothes. She smoothed out the comforter and then sat on the bed. She swung her legs on to the bed and lay back with her hands on her lap and recalled the first time she’d done this.

the whisper said, and Sophie lifted her head in its direction. Oh. His nameplate read Tom.
Sophie sat upright.
How do you expect me to decide whether I want this bed without trying it first?
Sophie reached for his hand and pulled him down onto the bed; and then she pushed him away from her to test how robust the mattress was.
Get up! Now!
Tom hissed as his face flushed crimson, and he didn’t know what to do. He got off the bed hurriedly.
I wanted to see if the mattress caved when you rolled towards me,
Sophie pouted, as Tom’s gaze settled on her lips.
It’s our policy. You can only test the beds before you buy them.
Tom folded his arms in defiance. He smirked at the same time, and Sophie thought she would try his patience.
It’s a stupid policy. I want to speak with the Manger to tell him what I think of his stupid policy.
Sophie got off the bed and attempted to straighten up the crooked comforter.
That’s not necessary, Madam.
Is it also policy to call every female customer Madam, regardless of age?
It is not our intention to cause offence, Madam. Erm, Miss.
I’m a Miss now? Can’t you make up our mind, Tom?
Sophie jabbed him in the chest beneath his nameplate and then recoiled when she felt the hard muscle beneath his vest.
"I can’t use your name because
