LIFTING MY HAND, I brush my fingers over the delicate wings of her shoulder blade and up around her shoulder. She shudders under my touch and flushes even more. An idea floats to the surface of my mind, one that I play with for a few moments before giving voice to it. Under normal circumstances, I would consider her pleasure foremost, but this is a strange circumstance and she needs confidence more than she needs to find release. Surely it had not been her idea to bring the two of us together.

Do you know what I enjoy, Your Highness? I ask, husky, imbuing my words with desire and need for her.

I told you that you can call me Lynn, she says, misunderstanding me entirely. I fight the urge to chuckle. She really is a stunning, innocent creature. Being debauched by her will be a pleasure.

I shake my head, biting back a smile. Highness, please, I say with deliberate slowness, looking at her through lowered lashes. I am but your humble servant. This is less untrue than Lynn believes, but she doesn’t yet know it. She will, though, if I have anything to say about it. And it will be fun for both of us.

Chapter One

WHEN I GET BACK TO my rooms, the dress is laid out on my bed, a sparkling jewel of a thing, too precious for a woman like me to consider wearing. It must have cost a fortune, made of the finest imported silk. Champagne-hued and dripping in pearls, it costs more than I should be able to afford. I long to touch it, but I fear damaging it, and so I do nothing to it. Instead, I bury my yearnings deep down inside where they belong, where they can’t hurt me. It’s safer that way.

Fleeing, I shout down the hallway. Moll! I peek into every open door, searching in every place I can think of for the troublesome caretaker and drawing a great deal of attention to myself in the process. Raised eyebrows confront me at every turn, as well as unhelpful comments about how this person
