When a new subtitle for this book of personal stories/poems that was initially published in 2017 appeared in my mind, I knew it was time to check in with the material.

2017 was six years ago, after all.

And since I'd just updated a few pieces from within the original Together Alone for inclusion in a recently released memoir Ex-Friends & Ex-Lovers Beloved: Sticking Together Through Thick & Thin -vs- Letting Go, it made sense to see whether any further refining of this volume (or perhaps some expansion?) might be appropriate, what with the intervening years spanning 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 certainly being quite pivotal, wouldn't you say?

Pivotal not only for someone like myself, whose home island saw volcanic eruptions/disruptions in 2018 and again in 2022, but for everyone wherever they reside. Between drastic changes in weather, health care, societal interactions along with the economy, I can't think of a more fitting time for members of the human race to hone their thoughts regarding how we might help steer Reality's careening ship as society's going seems increasingly rough.

Hence a new subtitle that is a play on the old adage: When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

I don't necessarily consider myself tough.

Determined, maybe.

Even in the face of what have sometimes seemed like insurrmountable odds.

But what's really struck me is how no matter how tough the going is getting — and things worldwide have sadly sunk to some new lows in recent years — any day someone is alive & relatively unscathed should definitely be considered a good day.

With this in mind, I've included as the final chapter of this expanded second edition of Together Alone: (newly subtitled) When The Going Gets Tough, Aliveness Keeps Growing an excerpt from the most recent offering in my The World Is Beautiful non-fiction series, along with sprinkling some illustrations from that volume throughout.

Book Four of the international The World Is Beautiful collection, entitled Brand New Earth Nude: Envisioning The Birth of a Naked New World, is part 'Day in the Life' of this world-imagining activist, and part visual/verbal support for the evolutionary process we're all going through.
