Special Note to Readers:
Having been eternally interested in people getting to live out fulfilling experiences with a sense of safety here on tumultuous Planet Earth (especially marginalized people such as: women, people of color, those without rich relatives, etc.), these past few years have found many folks asking, repeatedly, how living on the Big Island of Hawaii may have changed after enduring global events that began around the year 2020. Since I've been needing to jump back into this piece anyway (in order to remove reference links to a certain online mega-platform which various distribution channels apparently don't — or no longer— allow), I decided to tweak these reminiscences while doing the refresh, so that by the time you, dear Reader, reach Act V, the things I am sharing will remain contemporarily relevant now in the year 2022...because you know, in some ways, living in Hawaii has changed a lot over these past few highly pivotal years; while in other ways, I think I am really now finding myself just stepping further into the kind of life I'd actually been heading towards all along. :)

ACT I: INTRODUCTION
First, before ever setting foot in the tropical isles of Hawaii, I moved to California from New York, heading west for greener pastures...and loved it.
Really, Los Angeles with its population of indie & Hollywood filmmakers was maybe calling me more, but I didn't have a boatload of savings — and like New York, L.A. isn't a place you want to be even relatively poor — so I'd decided that still-somewhat-beatnik San Francisco would be a fine introduction to California to start, as I attempted to leave the daily grind of working full-time behind an editorial desk in the official world of N.Y. publishing for the avant-garde adventures of becoming a full-time writer.
I found San Francisco to be a much cleaner, prettier friendlier city than Manhattan.
It even had palm trees.
It also had creative people and gay people and people of color galore, and (at least at the time I was there) cheap ramshackle homes that fledgling artists could rent as we went about the sometimes arduously long process of honing our craft, fulfilling our purpose, and making our mark on
