THE GENEROUS GIFT OF WORDS
These autumn and winter months are an odd time of the year; a time when biting evenings and piercing fairy lights do battle, but not before children brave an October evening to knock on doors in the flickering lights housed in imaginatively carved pumpkins. And the solemnity of Remembrance Day sits between ghosts and sweets, and the wonderment at fireworks in the sky.
And then comes Christmas and New Year’s, inspiring joy and headaches both. Sometimes simultaneously.
Of course, it’s a time of year when the pain of personal struggle can burn and blister under all those shining stars atop trees, under decorations and expectations.
Yes, it’s a time of diverse events and feelings. The overcast and the radiant. Joy and tears.
But, I wonder, is there inspiration to be found in such mixed bag time of the year too?
Poems of Christmas magic? Stories of Halloween horror? And, if these dreary days are a weight upon your chest, maybe creative writing could be a sort of therapy?
