    Parables about the Kingdom of God

    The Parable of the Sower is a story that Jesus told to teach people about God's word and the different ways that people receive it. It is found in three different places in the Bible: Matthew 13:3-9, Mark 4:3-9, and Luke 8:5-8. Here's a simple retelling of the story.

    Once upon a time, a man went out to sow seeds in his field. He walked up and down the rows, tossing the seeds out of his hand. Some of the seeds fell on the path that ran alongside the field. The path was hard and compacted from all the people and animals that walked on it, so the seeds just sat on top of the ground. Before long, birds came and snatched the seeds away.

    Other seeds fell on rocky ground that didn't have much soil. The seeds sprouted quickly, but they didn't have enough soil to grow strong roots. When the hot sun beat down on them, they withered and died.

    Still, other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked the plants. The thorns stole the nutrients and water that the plants needed, and they never produced any fruit.

    But some of the seeds fell on good soil. The soil was rich and deep, and the seeds sank down into it. They began to grow and flourish, producing
